Wouldn't look too bad if it was some actual camo the military uses like Multicam, Scorpion or digital and used in honor of the military.

Aren't kneepads an NCAA requirement? Maybe even OSHA for all I know. Safety thing.
Technically, kneepads are required for safety. I believe it's illegal to not have them.

Per AI........
Is it legal in college football to not wear kneepads?

Short answer: No — it is not legal in college football to play without knee pads. NCAA rules explicitly require knee pads, and they must cover the knee and be worn inside the pants.

🏈 What the NCAA Rule Actually Says

The NCAA equipment rule (Rule 1-4-4) states:
  • Knee pads are mandatory.
  • They must be covered by the pants, and
  • The pants and knee pads must cover the knees — meaning exposed knees are illegal.
Officials routinely check this during warmups, and players can be held out of play until compliant.

🧩 Why You Sometimes See Players With Bare Knees

Even though the rule is clear, some players roll their pants up or wear extremely small pads. Officials often warn or penalize teams, but enforcement can vary by crew.
However, the rulebook leaves no ambiguity: knees must be covered by knee pads inside the pants.
