SWE is picked 2nd ahead of West Craven in conference preseason picks. Eastern Wayne is #1.
You need to ride with me tomorrow to Barton College for the jamboree there. I think it starts at 5. We scrimmage Cleveland at 8.
Yea I understood that which is why I replied about Kinston and Farmville. I should have explained what I meant by that comment. Tarboro can’t depend on them year end and out to make the conference better. And ole @swe98 should enjoy being ranked above us this year. I wish we played them last in the conference. I enjoy the rivalry with them and I have gotten to really like SWE98. He’s a good guy and a good sport.
I wish I had known I would have gone. EW had some good talent last year. I enjoyed our game there last year. They have a really good administration and a great fanbase. We were really treated well. The coaches in the press box were even given free drinks. Something we need to remember when they come to Vanceboro this season.
That's awesome! Greenville Rose I felt was head and shoulders above everyone at our scrimmage last night, but I fully expect Eastern Wayne to have a good year.
We took it to Cleveland tonight. I thought we looked really good. 60 minute scrimmage with running clock we scored 2 td’s and they scored one on our first string and then scored on our subs. I’ll take it! Can’t wait to play Havelock!
Not salty. It's just that having a 1A conference as the 3rd best in the state, that only had 4 total teams, is crazy. Especially considering that one team is entering its 5th season ever, and another one is entering its 4th. The tradition is there with the other two, North Edgecombe and Washington County (Plymouth), but as of last year, they couldn't do anything but drag a conference down, not help make them the 3rd best. Even though the conference did have the 1A champion, they couldn't beat anybody outside of 1A, other than Farmville Central, a team you ironically have as a top 10 3A team.
We really looked good against Cleveland Friday night. We still had one or two out and we had 5 sophomores starting on defense cause we are not playing any kids both ways this early. Maybe when things cool off if needed but not now. But we put together 2 long drives running the ball and short passes and went up 2td’s. They then got a long pass and then got another for a score. Their last score was on a lot of backups. Our lines did a great job. I’m looking forward to seeing Havelock in Vanceboro Friday.
I provided SWE with pressure washing this summer. They gifted me with 4 tickets to every home and away game for each and every sport. It was hard work, and I'm gonna use them lol. Of course, when you guys come to Pinetops, you can leave your money in your pocket.
When I go in I’m with the team getting equipment in so I don’t have to pay. Dennis Smith use to run our end zone camera. He was about 8-9 years younger than me. Going into North Lenoir one night I was behind him and he gave them a 20.00 bill and told them to keep it cause he knew schools budgets were tight. I thought it was neat and started doing it. Dennis died of a heart attack sometime after covid. He was 52. I’ve continued doing what he did. So I’ll make a donation at SWE in his memory.
