Bertman definitely built the best mouse trap in the early to mid 1990’s. Wasn’t just the juice, was also the cheat stick bats they were using before they got nerfed. Bertman was simply the best at taking advantage of it.

Still will never forget Brandon Larson. Transfers to LSU from Juco for one year. Hits FORTY home runs in 70 games. For reference, in MLB, that would equate to hitting 93 home runs just in a standard regular season. Drafted mid-1st round, gets requisite cup of coffee that you’re always going to get as the 14th overall pick, but he struggled mightily and was then never heard from again.

He’s the beginning & end of the conversation for best coach ever. Only one even close is Dedeaux at USC, but he coached in a very different era (the runner up for 2 of his championships was Southern Illinois).

Absolute legend, and probably the best ever. I had the opportunity to talk with him a couple of times when he spoke to our SEC alumni clubs of Houston. RIP

That’s a bit misleading. Polk dominated early when we play 6 times per season. Then when Bertman got his program built they cut back to 3 games per season. But Polk did tend to do ok against them head to head. Just wish he’d done as good vs everyone else.
