A bit surprising we are that high considering our track record over the last 10 years or so (prior to this past years run). That said, I would not have guessed that KSU, ND, and Memphis were ahead of us.

If we take last years run out, then we would be knocked down a few slots. Anyway, always fun to look at meaningless stats.

Thought the same thing given the length of Frans tenure and his issue getting out of the first weekend......

why?

Last game played on Sunday, after going 4 games in 4 days and we get an early tip on Thursday out East, BigTen Champs should never be playing on Thursdays. It's just plain stupid.

While I understand the travel and lack of rest, Richmond was not a good team. They were slow, methodical and if I remember correctly, bad against anyone from a big conference. I also thought they got absolutely housed in the next game while we were sitting at home with NBA players on our roster.

Personally, I love the conference tournaments. They are fun and exciting but playing every day needs to end. Extend the tournament into a whole week. Play back to back games then at least take one day off between.

Richmond also played 4 games in 4 days with their last game on that same Sunday.

Granted few hours earlier than IA and not the same level of competition as B1G; but still a really bad loss that soured many fans on Fran.

What stands out to me in that game with the Spiders is that Keegan had 21 points and PMac had 18. None of all the rest of the players had more than 6 points.

Dude, it was the ball....... ;)
I remember there was much discussion about the ball that was used. Wilson was the official ball used for Div. 1 play back then from what I do remember. From time to time, my memory eludes me. Bohannon was vocal about the ball used, is that right? What do you remember about that whole situation? All of the old Rivals threads are gone, so can't go back and refresh how it all went down.

K-State was pretty good in the way back. 4 Final Fours in the 50's and 1 or 2 times in the Championship game along with 6 AP Top 10 finishes. Tex Winter was the coach and had the 'Cats cookin'

Another KSU tidbit from the time machine..... KState lost the Regional final to Cincinnati AT Allen Fieldhouse in '59. The 'Cats were #1 AP at the time. They had Bob Boozer (6'8) who was the Big8 POY and the #1 pick in the '59 NBA Draft. The Bearcats were led by the Big "O", Oscar Robertson, and 2 other future NBA'ers. Robertson would be the #1 pick in the Draft for '60 and both he, and Boozer, were taken by the Cincinnati Royals.

K-State was rated NO LOWER than #4 all year by the AP, were Undefeated Big8 champs (ISU was 7th ahead of Mizzou), AND FINISHED the year at #1 in the Final AP Poll even tho they didn't make the Final 4.

I just remember lots of guys complaint about the ball being springy, or overinflated, kind of like a play ground ball. I know both teams had to use it, but if I remember that was a really LOW scoring game and neither team shot well.

Griping about the basketball. Just another example of how "tough" the Fran-era players were.

67-63 Richmond. Low scoring for the Hawks. Keagan and PMac were 15-32, the rest of the team was 9-34 (26.5%)

As a team the Hawks were 6-29 (21%) from 3. Hawks with 14 offensive boards and only 10 TO's.

Ugh,

The ball was like bright orange and I think it was unveiled for the tournament?

But you know a McCollum coached team would have handled the lead up to the game different. I doubt he'd have players complaining and making excuses about the ball being used.
