Where can I bet the under?

He is predicting a new scoring record for each of the top 4 places, a tie for the record at fifth, and new records for sixth and seventh.

NIL is going to make the gap between the haves and have nots continue to widen so it wouldn't be surprising if fewer teams score well at NCAAs. Realistically there's less than a dozen teams that will spend to be competetive.

5 in 5 is going to crush the Ivys as they only allow four years of eligibility so that's going take Cornell out of the equation in the near future plus probably lessen the chances of a Penn or Princeton high AA.

It all serves to concentrate the scores.

Those Ivy degrees still mean a lot.

That is absolutely plausible, just not in one off season.

I'm not sure it will have that much of a negative impact on the Ivies. It actually might be a selling point. Instead of being done with wrestling after 4 years at an Ivy, they can go to another school of their choosing for a 5th year. Get your $ making degree then go to your "dream school".
And Ivies DO have NIL. But its the real deal stuff. Not rev share and not "pay for play."

Interesting that his scoring includes an estimated bonus...

Penn State projected bonus = 34 points (we had 40 last year with 2 less AAs)
Oklahoma State bonus = 29 points (they had 15 last year)

Agree wholeheartedly. It’s also Revenue share, expanded scholarship limits, transfer rules. It wasn’t long ago 130 would almost guarantee a championship. 8-10 AAs are going to be the norm for the top 2-3 teams. The old scoring records are from a prehistoric time.

This assumes Levi being back. That isn't a done deal is it? Love Levi but the talent behind him is undeniably promising to put it mildly.

The NCAA filed a stay Tuesday and it's back in court Aug 17 🤷

Next year's recruiting classes are going to tell the tale. 5 in 5 was late to really effect this year's class.

i gave a detailed answer to this on the show today.

it takes a combination of common sense and current trends to understand that while the scores are high and not likely there's 1) a reason for it 2) to critique it, you have to get granular.

the team scores are best on all 10 weight points. to say they'll be lower you have to predict which individuals are going to crash and burn.

i stand by the placings i gave all the individuals. however odds are that not everything goes perfect for every team.

as a blanket prediction devoid of any real analysis and based completely upon odds and precedent, i would not predict 205 for PSU (or the high scores for any of the Top 4).

that being said, top teams are going to start producing unprecedented totals with the advent of NIL and Portal.

Willie’s crystal ball has been really accurate for us the last few years - predicting new scoring records when others were more gun shy.

205 is ludicrous on its face, but I could see it. We probably should have been over 190 last year as we left more than a few points out there.

Yeah, there are only so many placement ad advancement points available. The number without bonus points is around 890 so those scores would mean that all of the rest of teams would be tied with zero points. Not going to happen,. Just MHO.

Will you be comparing your prediction model using Willie's placement as presumed seed, as a frame of reference for how far over the top Willie's point totals are from what your model would predict?

There is a way to do this without predicting who will crash and burn. Expected points rather than max possible points. Of course, I must point out that PSU has an annoying habit of outperforming expected points, so adjustments are warranted.

But how did you not have Rutgers in the top ten? ;)

I do not have the individual positions. Maybe if I can find 45 minutes to listen to that part of the podcast.
I doubt that absent a Rokfin account you can see the full crystal ball. They pretty much skim around only the top eight during the Baschmania show.

Maybe @WillieTheBrain would share some electronic form of his placement predictions (and maybe even their infrequent updates). This would also support the annual who ranked them best analysis.

You can sign an NDI for the detailed data, as needed.

all you need to do to refute is say what individual predictions are wrong. which you won't.

i admit that my projects totals probably won't hit because it requires no injures, not coming out on top in every close call, being perfect, etc.

however they are a product of the individual projections, which are sound.

We look at the world differently. I am making allowance for "what if I am wrong?" statistically. You are just saying "prove me wrong", which of course no one can because it is your opinion.

i'm saying 'prove me wrong' on 10 guys per team.

and of course it can be proven. it is every year in march.

the reality is that my team totals aren't really my predictions, but a product of my individual predictions.

i wouldn't predict PSU to have 205pts. doing so would be betting that my IND predictions would go 10 for 10. even I'm not that arrogant ;)

Didn't get an explanation from you on the podcast on projecting Robideau over PJ in a rematch. I think it'll go more like PJ v Antrell round 2 than PJ getting suckered in to SV again.
