I will add that I was surprised that the Mets are eating approximately half of WEAVERS contract next year. On paper it seems like a good deal for the Pirates.
I have been no huge fan of the Bucs front office in recent years, but I do think they handled this years trade deadline very very well.
Getting Weaver for just Stafura - AND getting half of Weaver's contract covered - was a very good deal IMO

There wasn't much that could (reasonably) be done to give this team more than a slugger's chance at this year's post season. And what they did maybe takes them from "snowball's chance in hell" to "so you're telling me there's a chance"

The key thing they did do was to make strides towards a more promising 2027 (without sacrificing anything they might later regret) - and I think they did that very well.
They are actually positioned very well for the next year or two:
The only expiring contracts they have are Lowe (who will be missed), Soto (who has served a purpose in 2026, but also is eminently replaceable - especially with the new additions), and Ozuna (who will, obviously, have the red carpet rolled out for his exit).

Even with the likely increases in payroll due to arbitration numbers (mostly for Skenes, and a bit for Cruz and Jones and maybe a few more), the Bucs will go to spring training with a pretty well-stocked roster at a very reasonable cost - which should allow them to add a couple moderately priced FAs to fill in any weak spots (they could REALLY use a MLB quality 3B - but that is really the only black hole presenting itself for 2027 - IF there is a season)

And they still have a very solid pool of prospects in the minors.

Agree on all counts, ultimately I do not think the Pirates will get in, but I think this will allow them to stay in it well in September rather than possibly being out of it after the coming week.
Hopefully there is a 27 season as that could be the pirates best shot

Yep, the only hope is someone picks him up so the organization can save a few $$$.

I’ll give them credit for taking a shot at the beginning of the year with him. He just didn’t pan out.

In the Pantheon of Pirates pitchers, I don’t think he’ll even reach the careers of Candelaria and Drabek, who are the two best Pirates starting pitchers whom I’ve seen in my lifetime. He needs this season to end ASAP and then he needs to assess what went wrong this season because right now, he’s a below average MLB starting pitcher. There’s just a lot wrong with him right now, and hopefully it’s nothing physical that rest won’t cure and he can fix his mechanical issues.

They are folding like a cheap lawn chair at the worst possible time. Yes injuries have played a big part but the timing; post deadline BP upgrades and the start of football season. Unless they can win 5 in a row it may be an empty PNC Park.

They haven’t even been in a position to throw their best pick up in Weaver.

Last place in the division this morning
People should be fired immediately
I agree, the Jolly Roger is spiraling into the cesspool and Nuttjob is laughing all the way to the bank. He and his cronies have done nothing to improve the organization other than lucking into some generational talent, using them to put fannies in the seats, while never building around them.

Simply one of the worst run organizations in all of sports. They also have almost no luck regarding injuries; you can’t lose your starting shortstop and centerfielder for basically 2/3 of the season, your starting first baseman for several weeks, and now your starting right fielder for the season, and not have it affect you eventually. However, that’s a crutch that I don’t want to use with them because it gives them an excuse for their yearly poor drafting and player development, lack of simple baseball fundamentals, and general incompetence. But hey, the idiots who run that team probably are out this morning opening up another Miracle League field; they excel at that.

No posts about the win Saturday or loss Sunday...Friday's loss seems like it was the official "the season is over" loss

Skenes was finally efficient today and was pulled after 65 pitches in 5 innings--this whole thing is a joke at this point. Shut him down completely if he's not 100%
Thankfully they're so bad nothing matters
Getting the tying run thrown out at second, with a power hitter on deck, 2 out in the 7th, is the most Pirates thing I've seen since last Sunday.

Wonder what they could get in a trade of Skenes. At this point I wouldn't mind if they did.

They're playing out the string now, who would want to put out any effort for this team when ownership and management don't care.
They have no energy, it’s like they gave up when O’Hearn went down

To be fair...they bought at the deadline. Probably shouldn't have and considering they did not enough but they did buy

They are being paid a pretty penny to give out a respectable effort. I’d say this year more blame can be put on the players than the front office for what this has become.

We'll agree to disagree, management sat with their heads up their collective azzes while the bullpen pizzed away games left and right. If you're a starting pitcher or hitter that has done your job and put the team in the position to win only to see it slip away due to bullpen malfeasance, how would you feel? True, they're paid a good salary to play a game, but a WTF attitude is eventually going to seep in when nothing is done to plug the leak when it could have helped make a difference.

Can't disagree, but the injuries they've gone through didn't help. That said, like most, I'm tired of this same sh#t nearly every Fuc#ing year.

Ashcraft was possibly the best pitched game in Pirates history since the 10 inning no no

Ended up taking two or three from Boston. I have 36 games left. They’d have to play 700 ball to have a shot at the playoffs. Too many teams ahead of them. Need to sweep the padres when they play them, basically the same with the card in those two series.

Their odds on the post-season are - for all intents and purposes - a Blutarsky (0.00).

The one thing that "managment" has done properly - IMO - is to transition to "playing for next year - and future years" since shortly after the ASB, after things went south.

That's their operating model every year

Sad, but no reasonable person could argue against that statement.

Hopefully, that may change next year - if the actions of the last couple years present a decent enough roster (which I think they actually DID have this year), and the managerial team gets axed and replaced by some level of competence (Something we definitely did NOT have this year. No reason to trust that it will razed and rebuilt better, but it could hardly be worse than what we had in 2026)
