How did Cal even close to destroying the program? By leaving? It's not Cal's fault that Pope was hired.
He started bringing it down when he stopped coaching to win basketball games and started coaching for his brand. Didn’t destroy it but that started the decline.

Which Call assistant as a head coach has recruited well and won at a high level or any level?
Not a great track record.
How is Steve Pearl doing?
Rick Pitino Jr is better than above but still not very good success.
Brad may become an outlier but its just an opinion without facts.
Vegas odds would have Pope crushing Brad.

Literally right now LMAO 2026
I don’t understand how you guys can’t see Calipari could not recruit the elite guys here anymore. He got second tier 5 stars. Mitch was an anchor around his neck with not wanting to go all in on NIL. Yes, he was getting top 3 classes here but you gotta get the top, top guys to do it with all freshman. We were not getting any elite players his last 5 years here.
He’s getting top players again because the AD and administration are supporting him. Mitch and Cal would not even speak it was said when he left. Our AD was a Huge problem for all our coaches.

You are not a uk fan if that is what u want. Cal damn near destroyed the program once. Dont need him or his goofy kid anywhere near it ever again.
That is the same poster as a couple of other sigs in this thread. He is just pushing buttons. There are about 3 here that were just activated today with only a few post with their name that is the same poster.

I'll take Brad as coach with Cal as GM and a number one recruiting class every year over what we're currently getting.

Did you not watch our games for his last 6 years? We became a laughing stock as each year passed. Couldnt win the sec or the sec tournament and check out our record in the ncaa. Let Reed and Rob play off the bench in his last year here. That says enough. But there is plenty more.

I kind of figured that. Thanks.

This played heavily into Cal leaving, imho. Mitch had already shot down the practice facility and it was well known Brad was never going to be allowed to have a formal assistant title.
This is absolute truth. Source is one of Cal’s closest buddies from Lex who I happen to know. Cal couldn’t believe he couldn’t do whatever he wished. The hostage video with Mitch showed how little they could work together from that point on. Cal couldn’t believe he even had to do that sit down. That was Mitch wanting that bc of unrest in the base.

Having to do that…it humiliated Cal

It would be awesome if Brad was elevated to head coach at Arkansas.

Could Brad do worse than John ? Was is the expected winning percentage when you have the 5 best players on the floor every game ? Returns on Pope unacceptable, losing to Wisconsin with maybe the best college team ever unacceptable

Arkansas fans are going to be pissed when Cal Bruce Pearl/Tony Bennett’s them so they’re forced to give Brad a shot.

I know absolutely nothing about Brad’s coaching ability, but, outside of simple hatred for Cal, why do so many assume he didn’t earn an assistant position?

Do you think Brad earned his spot as a player, kind of the same thing as a coach. It's all about the chance, and he has gotten that, whether it was earned or given.

His decline was tough to take, especially after the first eight years or so. He was so good in the beginning and just got so cantankerous at the end. Problem is, we're still stuck in the same spot. No real improvement yet. Hopefully that changes.

Cal could absolutely recruit but he could not outcoach me. He was literally one of the worst X's and O's coaches EVER. It's like saying you have the most beautiful girl in the world, but she is dumb as dirt. It's not a great blend. Next.

He should have been humiliated with the performance of the Reed team and the first round losses because he refused to change.

Who cares?!

Why is it that folks get so upset when someone gets a job working that they have a connection too?

It is how a lot of people get jobs.

Law firms, banks, car dealers, construction/trades, insurance, banking…all industries that are very familial and you get in because you know someone or are related to someone. You grew up around it because your Pa did it.
