He might have been good at his job but definitely prefer a J Batt hire over a Mitch one for this new era. Probably a best for both parties situation.

No need for a vintage Village Idiot rant about how Mitch has destroyed our basic understanding of Kentucky basketball’s place in the pecking order and further cemented that by denying Calipari a practice facility haha

This guy played a big part in us falling behind so much in NIL funding. Good riddance. Mitch was the ringleader and was highly against paying players and now has a job that does nothing but allows him to sit around and eat hay. How hypocritical.

Yeah Mark Pope leaving BYU and coming to Kentucky was right around when this blew up. Year 1 of Pope was when I believe we first started seeing paid-for rosters and year 2 was when we saw the rise of biding wars for guys like Dybantsa.
I think it was just a coincidence. Mark Pope was operating with the old BYU that we knew, not this new one thats throwing around tech money.
Im still more "out" on Pope than "in", but I will always be impressed that he was able to grt BYU to be somewhat of a contender in the B12 that year before leaving. They had no business being anywhere other than at the bottom of that league, but they won a good deal of big games.

BYU is already killing it, 'For BYU'. I'm just glad Kentucky was smart enough not to hire Barnhart's buddy as AD. It would likely have gone over like a lead balloon.
Don't know what Hill can do to make things much better for BYU, there in the best spot they have ever been in basketball, big money changes everything.
The whole dept should have been fired after the swim team scandal.

Believe he started out as strength coach for Arizona basketball. Pretty sure he was their guy back when Zona was top tier with stacked team and won the title.

Mitch had a really unusual gravitation towards elevating strength coaches into basically jr execs. Hill and Rock Oliver both.
I cant imagine there was another major ad office that was full of former failed exercise guys.
12 years of that was a S&C coach for football. Thats where he was when I first met him. He's a nice guy, but I was surprised to see him mentioned as a possible AD to replace Mitch. He never came across as a leader of men to me.
Mitch was no leader of men and he survived here 25 years.
I think most people start somewhere.
Would wager any C suit at most companies have folks who started at entry level.

Feel like coaching being directly involved with athletes is a good start.
He didn’t hop right from putting Zona through a work out into 2nd in command of UK.
Most likely worked up through other departments/operations.
Heck UK just hired two guys without a lot of experience to run football and the AD.
MH was helping build a team that would interrupt a UK 3 peat while J Batt and WS were watching as young kids.
