Anyone besides me sick of hearing these predictions of 4-8, 5-7, 6-6, etc?

Hey, do we still want to do that Shane vs Spurrier conparison? Remember when that was all the rage when Shane was within a couple games?

Well, if we really want to, Spurrier won 9 games his 6th season here. He won the division and made it to the SEC championship game. Then lost that and the bowl.

So that's what Shane will do, right?
:ROFLMAO:

Did we pay SOS what we are paying Beamer? Spurrier was a "steal" salary-wise.

And wasn't Beamer sold to us as some recruiting magician? We are currently 11th in the SEC. Didn't Schubert have an article this week basically saying that money was not a problem getting players here?

I think we need to stop making excuses for the guy and start demanding results. I'm not referring to you. I'm referring to us as a whole fan base.

Would you say the same about Mississippi State? Mississippi State’s overall winning percentage is a shade less than ours. Since Jackie Sherrill, they have changed their HC roughly every 3.5 years and where has that gotten them; they’re a gimme on your season prediction. We’re probably one on their fans’ predictions. Why do we expect “better” than them? We deserve a Cignetti and Mark Cuban at South Carolina? Why?

I’m not interested in “convincing” anyone to keep Beamer, but at the same time I’m comfortable and hopeful with where we are and at the same time cognizant of our “lane”. It’s college football man; entertainment. As you and I both have posted, Steve Spurrier needed a one time freak crop of local guys falling in his lap to make any noise, and regardless of the common message board caveats, if SPURRIER couldn’t do it, whether he was his “best” self or not, I don’t believe a Cignetti without a Cuban will either. I believe there is no more profit for us in letting Beamer go especially with the new AD overseeing things than in bringing in the next head coach hire press conference.

Now if we come out laying lizard eggs, I’ll show him the door myself.
You make good points. But, a bowl annually (6 wins) should be the expectations, here. Right?

The 3.5 years surprises me, that is below the average i found a while back.

I just dont see an issue with a coach getting 5 years (or in this case 6). I dont think thats an unusually small window for a coach to show us what kind of job he can do.

Now you mentioned something about the money. I could see an argument that it costs us a ton with the ridiculous buyouts, and theres a chance we end up with the exact same situation.

I see the reasoning there, I just am not sure I could go along, personally. It would seem like not even trying to get better at that point. I think UK people felt that way for a while.

Marcus broke two tackles every play too. We think our oline was so much better, but it wasn’t. Marcus was a man among boys. That Georgia game his first year was a great example.
I agree. OL was better during that time frame but we had avg to good OL’s at best instead of bad to terrible. Same thing happened in 2020 with Kevin Harris. OL was terrible but many thought we had a fantastic group. I never saw it and Pro Football Focus ranked the unit at 100. Bobo also heavily utilized a fullback that season. The next season when we had that idiot Satterfield it was a different story for Harris.

Sure. Its the expectation everywhere thats not a blueblood school.

We have guys posting that if its not a playoff bowl then the bowl game is meaningless garbage, but if Beamer doesnt make a bowl he should be canned.

I guess I tend to look at players moreso than coaches, and when I personally look back at last season I don't see Beamer making a statement about playoffs this season, I see Lanorris Sellers getting concussed or whatever early on and running scared the rest of the season. I see more than a couple of games we were in positions to win and couldn't make the plays when we had the opportunities right there, set up by the coaches that get lambasted out of fan frustration (don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're gone.) But Beamer can't "coach" the kicker to make the f'n field goal, the receiver to catch the ball that richochets off his chest for a pick six, or the qb to just accurately lob the ball to the receiver for the first down that probably would have iced the game instead of sailing it over his head, then watching our defense (the coach of whom everyone defends) get smoked down the field in the final minutes for the game winning TD.

But I digress...

Forget playoff talk. That said, no one that I'm aware of put a gun to Beamer's head saying we will be watching the playoff show like we did in 2024 to see if we make it. But I digress.

I made the comment that 6 wins (.500 winning percentage) should be our floor, not our ceiling in Year 6 of the Shane Beamer era. I really don't think that is unreasonable. That's not a "blueblood" season. That's what a South Carolina football season is capable of. Jim Carlen won 56% of his games as Head Coach here. In seasons 5, 6 and 7 here, he won 61% of his games and was then fired for non-football reasons. Joe Morrison won 58% of his games here . In seasons 5 and 6, he won 67% of his games here. Then he died. And no, neither Carlen nor Morrison played a SEC schedule. But neither had the SEC conference affiliation as a recruiting magnet either. Steve Spurrier won 64% of his games here. And before he had some great in-state talent, he won 56% of his games.

Consequently, I do not believe it is unreasonable to expect at least (floor) .500 season (6-6) in Beamer's 6th season here. If he can't do that, I would fire him. But, that's me.

6 wins this season is the floor. Period. And that floor has extra padding and thick shag carpet. 7 really should be the floor with 9 being the expectation. The schedule lines up actually good for this team to knock any "new coordinator" rust off in the first two games and be ready to start the conference schedule off with a home win over MSU. Alabama is beatable, no doubt. The 4-8 team from '25 should have beaten them. I think we have a really good shot at a 5-0 start before heading to Gainesville. That Florida team is full of talent as always. We'll see what Summerall is able to do with it. This could be a fun season. Like someone else posted somewhere here, @Oklahoma and UGA in Cola are really the two hardest games on the schedule. 9-3 should be the expectation in Year 6 and anything above that gets us in the CFP.

Beamer won 9 games in 2024. Why not in 2026? Yes, being a Head Football Coach is a tough business. But, he gets paid good money too. Historically, we have not set the college football world on fire. But what was Indiana before Cignetti arrived? If you want to "settle", OK. But Indiana was not willing to "settle". Does that mean we will go out and win a national championship? No. But, it does mean we don't HAVE TO "settle" for mediocrity. So I don't think it's unreasonable to say 6 wins is the "floor", if that makes sense.

I agree. Anything less than 6-6 at this stage and coming off of '25 is unacceptable and boot time. And I really like Beamer. I want this to work out, but < .500 is not gonna cut it.

Beamer is 33-30 after 5 seasons. I don't think Donati is all that excited about having a coach for whom 6-6 is the norm although many on here would be over the moon. Donati would have never hired him. Nobody would. Except one person. I still can't get over the whole Tanner thing.

Excluding the time he was baseball coach, Tanner is one of the worst things that has ever happened to USC sports.

Lurker . . . Beamer is still within a couple of games, and I’m willing to wait and see how this year pans out.

Spurrier went on a run beginning year 6 as you mentioned (9-5) and then saw the three 11 win seasons in a row. If there had been a CFP during those three years, SC would have been in them.

Spurrier’s record after five years (2-3 against Clemson):
2005: 7–5
2006: 8–5
2007: 6–6
2008: 7–6
2009: 7–6

35–28 (.556)

Beamer’ record after five years (likewise, 2-3 against Clemson):
2021: 7–6
2022: 8–5
2023: 5–7
2024: 9–4
2025: 4–8

33–30 (.524)

Oh, I know how the records are still within shooting distance.

The old joke is that the comparison was always how great Shane was if you compared him to Spurrier's worst years.

If we REALLY think they are similar, or close ( and I dont think anyone really does) then we'll all be happy when Shane goes to the SEC championship game and wins 9 games this year.

Where i come from, thats called a jinx.

Seriously, both our high priced tackles have injury issues, and the entire OL is a rebuild project. Im not tempting fate by proclaiming it any sort of success before I see it on the field.
with respect, we finally have a real offensive line coach. In an article posted on this website, in describing what this coach focusing upon, it was stated his processor did not. I really believe we are going to be much improved on the OL!

The new OL coach has to be an improvement over the last guy.

And admittedly, I may be thinking old school. But 4 or 5 new starters was never a good thing. Maybe the NIL era is making that a thing of the past.

But worst of all was the two high priced tackles who may or may not play. (Above someone said one is already out for the season).

Yes, I knew. Of the two, which one had a track record of huge success, giving you confidence he would get the job done?

I'm pulling for Shane. We all are. We are pinning our hopes on Clements and Drayton.
