Is this the year we have a 300 yard passing game?

Is it? Passing is a thing that good teams do. Even mediocre teams do it. Iowa? The numbers tell the story. Have someone read them to you.
Well, Iowa is well above a mediocre program. Actually are one of those good programs that you speak of.

So what's your point, other than you can't get some sort of KF hatred out of your heart?

I don't get hung up on the 300 yard thing. Wins are all that matter.

However, having an effective and efficient passing game is imperitive in today's football. It can be argued that Iowa's lack of an effective and efficient passing attack is directly responsible for multiple losses over the past several seasons. That is NOT saying those seasons as a whole were not good, or that Hawk fans should not be happy.

Since every game is HUGE, 1 loss can make a big difference as to whether a team qualifies for its conference championship game or even the playoffs.

What!!!!??? The OP thread title says "300 yard passing game" which means the final stats for Iowa would have 300+ yards total passing which could include a halfback pass or a backup qb with passing yards.

I sure hope you dont make a habit of "Trumpet"ing your reading comprehension!!. I just had to write that, I couldnt help it, but it was in jest!
Good one!

You're right about the thread's title, but the original post says "passer." Regardless, I'm good with a productive offense contributing to Ws, regarding of whether they hit 300 yards passing individually or collectively.

And all the fans that bad mouthed Nate Stanley.

Stanley got some well-earned criticism, but he was a solid B1G QB, and I don't think anyone ever called for him to be benched in favor of Peyton Mansell, Ryan Schmidt, Petras/Padilla or whatever other garbage we had on the bench during his tenure. And I think I agree with most that he is more appreciated now, due to the joke at the QB position Iowa had for the following 5 years after he left.

I remember a lot of people in my life saying he sucked. Most of those people wish he was back nowadays.

if stanley had been the qb 2021-24 i suspect we woulf have 1-2 more b1g titles
despite his inconsistent nature
If they had the 4 games red shirt rule prior Stanley plays during Covid and I truly believe Iowa wins first 2 and would’ve been 8-0 playing OSU in big 10 title game.

looking back especially for Iowa standards we were pretty stacked offensively. Goodson, Sargent, ism, Brandon smith, Charlie jones, La porta/beyer at TE and OL with Jackson, kallenberger & linderbaum. Weak spot Qb. Odd thing was Petras first game at Purdue was the most passing yards he ever threw in his Iowa career.

Surprising stat of the day -

Chuck Long threw for 300 yds in a game FIVE times in his career.

Brad Banks did in once. Drew Tate did it once.

Chuck Hartlieb had SEVEN - which is the Iowa record.
Tate stat was surprising he only did it once.

To add on. Scott Mullen had 3 300+ and one was for 400+ vs IU in 99’. Next season Jon “the future” beutjer threw his lone 300+ game against IU.

If we throw for that many, does it mean we're eating clock and dominating people with our run game?

300 yards passing is not needed in our scheme. 200 would be nice with about 150 on the ground and 33 min with the ball and a 21 pt lead 😆😉

Also... this. KF doesn't care about any of this. Just winning. It would help him out a lot if we can move the ball consistently and keep the defense off the field.

There are bad spread teams that can throw the ball but lose, there are very few bad teams that can run the ball effectively.

arbitrary stats are garbage compared to Wins and Losses. Fans aren’t smart

With our current offense as well as our current QBs not likely at all. The only way I see it even remotely possible is if theres a game where we get way behind and have to throw every down. Any of the soft games, we will run it down their throats. Now if the question was 300 yard rushing game, I would say heck yes, multiple ones

If Iowa gets a 300 yard passing game it will probably include something like a 5 yard out that goes for 90.

Brad Banks' lone 300+ game included the epic 95 yard pass to Dallas Clark that Clark caught on the 5 and took it to the house. That was 95 yards of Banks' 378 yards that day.

I believe that's referred to as YAC, right?

I started watching with HartLeib. Was surprised he did not make it in nfl. He was great in college. Chuck long years i missed i was racing bmx all over Iowa , not watching sports

Scott Mullen v IU - 36/60 for 426 yds. But all I seem to remember about that game is Randle El.

There were calls for Padilla and even Petras if I recall correctly. The usual the back up QB is always a better answer than the starter when he struggles type of stuff.

This. Another reason context is important. As great as that team looks historically we very well could have lost that game to a pretty meh Purdue team.

Well, I supposed there may have been SOME of that, because like you said, that's what fans do. But nothing like the deserved calling out of Petras/Deacon/Cade. A vast majority of fans recognized that Stanley was a solid B1G QB and by far the best choice we had during his tenure, despite his faults.

I don't believe 300 yd passing games are as important as explosive pass plays are.

In my opinion I would say that this is the most important passing stat and arguably overall offensive stat -> College Football Player Stats - Yards Per Pass Thrown

Iowa needs to first get on that list. The higher, the better chance at a playoff birth.

This stat is also one of the top indicators for NFL teams making the Superbowl.

And yes, of course run the ball............but without a high YPA it will be tough getting into the playoffs
