With the high school football season 2 weeks away which teams/schools who no longer have football due to numbers, closure, consolidation do you miss? I miss them all but I’ll start with Joliet East. Not too long ago their remaining bleachers, scoreboard, ticket booths, goal post & lights got torn down. A sad ending even though 1982 was their last football season

I have a little nostalgia for Driscoll Catholic. They were fun to watch. Looking back on those 7 straight championships however, I don’t think they are at the level of some of the 3a and 4a teams that are winning state titles now. They were tough, hard nosed kids with maybe 1-2 stand out players. Mostly families with multiple kids who attended, kids of alumni, but very few high d1 kids. It was a different era. When the old suburban catholic moved over to the ccl it changed the feel of the kids that were attending. They had to get better players to compete in the ccl. Look at IC, St. Francis and Montini, they’ve blown up from the mid 2000s. The teams that haven’t, Marian central, st eds, Marmion, and aurora central, are a shadow of their former selves in terms of success. They don’t have the horses to compete in the CCL. Really just Marian Central and Marmion, Eds and ACC were never very good.

A lot of the reason schools like IC, Franny, and Montini blew up was because Driscoll closed and those athletes had to go elsewhere.

Not necessarily one team that I miss but I do miss the old Okaw Valley Conference with the black and blue divisions. Included teams like Tolono Unity, St. Teresa, Central A&M, Tuscola, Maroa Forsyth, Monticello, Shelbyville, Sullivan, Warrensburg-Latham, Meridian, Argenta-Oreana, and Clinton.

LW North, if only to see how things might have played out for the 4 D210 schools (along with the rest of the SWSC) without that closure.
Did you know if enrollment kept going up Manhattan Illinois was going to be home to Lincoln Way South

Imagine if these CCL schools haven’t dropped football/closed having 2 CCL Conferences with St.Joe’s,Seton, Guerin, SFDS, DLS, Weber, Mendel, Christ The King, Leo & Hales. No crossovers with the monsters. These guys would find their way into the playoffs
