Where are you getting your information that most private football players are not paying full tuition? That is obviously something that you completely made up and you have no specific knowledge of. If so, rather than make something up, give us an example. I coached at two separate vey successful ccl schools both with multiple state championships for more than 15 years and that was not the case. Those who did not pay full tuition had to apply for and satisfy the same criteria for financial aid every other student. Many prospective students, athletes and non-athletes, did not attend those schools since, even with financial aid, the cost was not financially viable for the family. In either event, even if certain student athletes do qualify for financial aid, what are you suggesting exactly?
I have also coached at 2 CCL schools and know how it works. Doesn’t matter if you didn’t see it happen or not, it’s happening. I’d bet whatever you want, ask your school for tuition fees for all football players and bet they would not give that information out. They’d say we can’t give out that info but it’s ok for public schools to give that info out?!

I’m all for private schools my youngest son went to one because we liked it better than what the other offered. Did he get reduced tuition? What do you think? Was it because I coached? Don’t think so because I didn’t coach his last 2 years

If I'm remembering right Justin Scott didn't even start playing football until he went to Ignatius or so I'm told. Honestly with other schools your argument holds water but not with Iggy. They rarely recruit anyone and they are the stingiest with any aid. Your paying there, even with Aid it's more expensive then most other schools. They are extremely strict with this.
True, they are stingy with aid. Although if I was coaching at that time, I’d be pushing to do whatever needed to keep him there. Different level with him on the field and different level for the school. Basically recruiting kids by having him there

All right Good Will Hunting
Not hard to remember endowment size and how many receive financial aid. Game scores I pull from IHSA site.

I also visited Loyola's site last year and can still remember how they boast about having students from 96 different zip codes.

You didn't answer the question. Did you always have this strong hatred of private schools or is it more recent?

Question will always linger? Nobody is asking that question. He was coaching at NIU and got the chance to return to his Alma Mater and coach. He's a Heisman Finalist and has a outstanding Football IQ. Most football fans in IL respect his coaching abilities and realize he's a great coach, he doesn't have to take on a public school position to prove that to anyone. These hypothetical "what if" scenarios you bring up are really bizarre. He's an amazing Coach, if your lucky enough to meet with him someday and talk shop you'll realize it.

Let's play hypothetical game one more time. Could the Morris head coach go into MC this year, install his offense, deal with the numerous players college recruiting with NIL money in their future and their parents and keep them all grounded and focused and guide them to a State Championship with the schedule MC has? Dealing with ESL and ESPN games against unknown New Jersey Championship teams then the CCL Blue schedule and then the playoffs with everyone gunning for you and if you win, you had it easy who can't win with those players and if you lose....get ready for every sports writer to and social media influencer and podcaster to blow up your phone.....takes a great coach to handle that pressure that comes with it. Oh and on Sundays go out and travel watching grade school games and then try to fight out 7 other schools gunning for the same players and then hearing "How did we lose him to Br Rice???" from upset fan base....

Also, with Phil Jackson, how many Championships did Bulls win under Collins? How many did the Lakers win after Reilly left before Jackson got there? Yes you need the players but you need a great coach to guide them.
Interesting example. So by your standard, Lynch is not a great coach because the past three HC's at MC have all won state? I agree.

If your school hired Jordan Lynch to be the head coach would you think that would be a great hire and look forward to the direction your program is going in with his coaching and playing resume?

Given how Byron's title game went last year I don't think a game against Montini would have been close.
Disagree. I talked with Coach Considine, a few months back at length about the game and he said it was the worst defensive played in his coaching career. That game is not the norm.

I was at the Byron IC game last year and Byron completely dominated that game.

Yes, that is poor coaching by Montini to have that much of a talent advantage and lose then have a 1 point win over Byron. Hats off to Byron yes, but hats on to Montini.
I wouldn’t say there was any talent difference between the two teams at all.

What makes you say there was?

McCaravan,

I have been following but trying not to blow the thread up because it’s been a fun read seeing that zero has changed in 10 years. That said we will become perhaps odd teammates this season supporting our right to exist! I tip my hat to you my Friend!

So why don’t you tell you tell us all how it works. What did I miss? You seem to have this narrative in the abstract. Once and for explain it to everyone, with some specificity.

So, to try and prove your point, you want me to ask the schools for tuition fees for all football players because some complete clown on edgytim Insists that football players get more money than say volleyball players or girls basketball players. If you really think that happens show us the receipts, otherwise shut up.

Btw. I have no idea if your son got a reduced tuition. How would I know or care. Based on your posts though, it is pretty obvious why you were only allowed to coach for two years.

If these are the lengths elementary schools are going to in order to keep kids out of their schools I wonder what high schools are will to do to keep kids out OR bring certain kids in.

Well the district spends 20k per kid to educate them. So if she has three kids going there the district saved 52k to not educate kids that live outside of their boundaries. I understand the woman’s struggle, I empathize with her, but if they don’t live there then they don’t live there. I highly doubt private investigators didn’t see them going in the house from the side unless they hired Frank Drebin.

Hello my friend! This Al Pacino quote has been my reaction to a lot of these posts. I'm sorry to let you know that by some of these posters thinking Tim Racki can also not be deemed a great coach because he hasn't won at a title at a Public School. Him and Jordan are just good coaches. They have the right to their opinion, I just don't have to agree with it! Hope all is well with you and the family. Stay safe

I don't have a hatred, Morris and JCA have always had a mutual respect during their playoff rivalry, just pointing out facts that refute things people say about there not being that much of an imbalance or how it's only been recently lopsided.

Don't see how it's bizarre hypothetical considering it was brought up earlier how coaches who have coached at public schools had little to no success, but when they were at privates they were wildly successful. Seems natural to consider whether it could be done or not.

Poor hypothetical considering I'm no fan of the Morris coach and don't think he could win a state title with U of I's roster. Dealing with all Lynch has to deal with as the MC coach is his fulltime job, plus I feel like it's safe to say he delegates duties to others on staff as well. The Morris coach is also the Vice Principal and has to deal with all the nonsense that comes with that position rather than focusing on football alone. How many of MC's coaches also teach versus being able to focus on football fulltime?
Morris coach couldn’t win a state championship with the U of I roster? Looking at last season alone, what does this say for the programs Morris beat? The Sycamore, Geneseo, Metamora, Rochelle, Kaneland, Wilmingtons of the high school football world. Those head coaches must really be terrible based on your logic.

I coached for over 20 years at the high school level, but that’s not the point. Calling names over the internet is even better. Which seems to be your motive on multiple posts here. I’m sure any athlete at a private school will get help female or male. Majority of private schools need the athletes to stay open. I can post emails and tuition payments but what will that do on here. Again what I said let’s make private schools tuition FOIA.
Oh yeah, I was also recruiting coordinator at one of those CCL schools so yeah I saved all those emails and communications from both sides.

I call BS and someone with an ax to grind with the CCL/ESCC because they were dismissed from their “coaching position”. If you had all these emails you wouldn’t be able to contain yourself. If in fact you do have these emails send them to the IHSA for investigation because no one wants or needs this behavior.

Call BS all you want, I never said I wanted to grind the CCL. Private schools are 100% needed and sometimes a better option for students and families. I stated they should be separated for playoffs and have an advantage compared to the public schools. Which obviously the way things are ran it is fine. Scholarships are given for numerous things which the kids earn. Who am I to say they didn’t. Again I started by saying they have an advantage.

Would you like to see my state title ring or runner up metal from the title games lol, which I received from coaching at CCL schools.

edit: Why not separate public and private or have an open division if the big public/private want to get into

What would change? In all seriousness, more kids would not be flooding the U-46 area so it wouldn't really move the needle at all.

I don't want to get too into this because this was mearly a coaches opinion but yeah, a 15 mile radius would close a ton of private schools and if anyone want tutorial on what it takes to keep a Chicago Catholic League school open feel free to DM me. A 100 student drop off would be a 1.5 million a year loss in tuition. That's game over at schools like MC, BR, and Rita and probably others. Not immediate death, but enviable death and 1000% a drop off in athletic success. It might make some of you happy to have a season without the CCL powers but I think you'd miss us more then you think. You'd have so much less to complain about 😂
Few people outside of alumni care what it takes to keep a CCL school open. If they can't stay open without special athletic rules, they don't need to be open.

I have a modified FOIA request. Instead of tuition review, every school, both public and private, must have web cams providing a live feed 24/7 from the schools weight room. A lot might be learned.
Actually a lot would be learned in the weight room. Huge difference for most private to public football programs. Most, some are geared towards other sports. In all cases, you can visit the weight room if you are interested in the school or college coach. Met many college coaches coming in to watch potential recruits lift from division 3 to division 1

I’ve always wondered - what would a 15 mile radius change?

Kids would still go to private schools and would just go to a closer one. They wouldn’t now go to a public school.
It would/could change the stockpiling of talent and spread it out more.

If you are willing to pay the tuition there should be no mileage limits as to where you are coming from IMO. What if you are a legacy student? About half of MC's enrollment are legacy. So if they change it to 15 and you are a third generation legacy student (MC actually just graduated a 5th generation this past year) and you just happen to play a sport you would be able to attend but not play a sport by your suggestion?

If it was changed to 15 mile radius MC and St. Rita would be closed in 2 years and BR would not be far behind. Laurence would be on life support and those are the only schools I know of.

MC is located on 64th and Dante. About 10 students live within 2 miles of the school.
If legacy is that important, why move so far away?

This would crush property values. Major selling point for homes from March through August is school district and if districting were open, then a home in Wheeling would have the same value as a home in Arlington Heights, and we all know that's not the case. Local districts matter.
You can live in Arlington Heights and go to Wheeling

Because you get out school, get a job, and often move to where the job takes you. Get married, have a kid, and even if it's boy, housing is a big factor, as well as changing neighborhoods. All my buddies went to Leo and I was torn between Leo and Carmel, where all my uncles and cousins went. Since I couldn't decide, I said to myself that I needed a sign. The sign soon arrived, a big flashing neon sign that said Mount Carmel. One of the best decisions I have ever made.
