I had previously posted that I thought this might be the weakest starting lineup the Mets had all season. I stand by the statement. Today, happily, they overperformed.
And Nolan did not have his a game. That is what makes this more amazing/head scratching.

How Amick is not ranked on the Mets top 30 is incomprehensible to me. Granted, he's pretty much a one tool guy, but it's a really important tool.

I wouldn't get too caught up on that since I think it's only Pipeline. Pipeline just inserts new players and that wasn't a real new ranking. When they do he'll probably be there. Also once you start getting into that range of prospect you can rank guys a bunch of different ways. They're not separated by much.

The current Pipeline 30 is a mess. It's going to look a lot different when they update. Doesn't even include the 26 draftees yet.

Voit being on an all time heater now is great to see. Great job by the organization to draft an athlete they loved with tools they thought they could help with. He was starting to get me nervy by the end middle of June. Whoever helped with the swing is great stuff.

That mustache gets me back to my roots when I started following baseball in the 1970s.
Dudes commenting on facial hair is a little weird, IMO. McLean's got nothing on Rollie Fingers. Before the days of anti-Social media and rage baiting, nobody commented on this awesomeness:

It was just an off-the cuff comment about a 1970s style mustache. I guess my initial comment would be considered "weird" if he hadn't already been asked about it and joked about it earlier in the season.

Oh, I was not referring to you, there were a lot of weird and somewhat nasty posts about McLean's mustache. As the final arbiters of weird, we have determined that praising and liking mustaches is not weird, but criticizing them angrily is weird. As a side note, I gave up trying to grow a mustache. Old women in nursing homes have better mustaches than I can grow. TMI!!!!

I never could grow a good one - clean shaven was always the way to go. But at least one former poster on this Board got his handle because of one. 🥸

Mets claim former Guardians utility man Gabriel Arias on waivers. He is out of options and must be added to the active roster. Primarily SS, but has played everywhere except P and C. His lifetime OBP of .275 is most unimpressive. I guess they think he's an upgrade over... somebody? Maybe Wagaman?

No risk, probably no reward, but you never no.

Arias was pretty much a regular player for the Guardians last year. But then, so was Wagaman for the Marlins.
None of us know. Mind you, it's a very small sample, but who would have thought this rag tag bunch of young kids and underperformers would have swept the Guardians? Maybe Stearns knows what he is doing. . . . . OK, that may be going too far off of 3 games.

Diaz gave up a walkoff HR last night. 11.00 ERA. Lost year for him. I admit I was upset he left

And that is why you sell high on relievers, as the Mets did with Weaver and Brazoban. They are SO volatile.
Don’t disagree with your volatility comment however Diaz had a terrible first year with Mets as well !

I think Diaz is a headcase and he needs a year to get comfortable with his new team etc.

Plus he’s had other issues like cockfighting as well ! Lol

Interesting thought on what would have been Diaz trade return value had he re signed with Mets.

Considering his contract - would he have been untradeable ?

I think any long term contract is untradable prior to the new CBA.

Afterwards, who knows? If there is a salary cap and floor, guys like Diaz might be in demand by small market teams that have to get up to the floor.

Wagaman optioned to Syracuse to make room for Arias. This is good news in that it means the Benge injury does not require him to go on the IL. Benge is not in the lineup tonight though.

Arias wearing #25, Raley's old number.

Benge interviewed and said that he would be out only a day or two.
I saw his quote "Everything came back positive". In the context of medical testing, I don't think that phrase means what he thinks it means. Hope not anyway!

I really hope Bichette opt out of his contract. He has brain freeze way too often. He ain't the player his father was. They could have gotten out of the inning without giving up a run.
