I'm disappointed that not one of our running backs has stepped-up to take the lead role as RB!******

I like the competition, Drayton says the best will get the bulk of the carries. Maybe there just isn't a clear #1 at the moment and they need to see a litttle more in camp!

RBs are becoming irrelevant in the college and pro game. With bigger and faster athletes on the defensive side of the ball, teams can neutralize all but the very exceptional backs. You really just need a RB who can gain 2-3 yards for a down. WRs and TEs are the real currency.

I disagree strongly!! Teams that cannot run the ball in college cannot win at a high level. When it is a crucial 3rd and 4, a team has to have the threat of running the ball to have much chance of converting. A good running game will also let a team turn a 2nd and 10 into a makeable 3rd down and less than 5 without risking an incompletion resulting in a 3rd and 10.

Nothing is more demoralizing to a defense than, late in the game, when your team needs the ball back to score, the other team has the ball and can sustain a long drive running the ball over and over.

Yeah, effectively running the ball is vital for all kinds of reasons. Wears an opposing defense out. Gives your own defense a rest. Chews up clock. If a team can't run when they need to, they are dead in the water.

If we don't have an effective running game, stick a fork in us. We're done. No defense can survive when its offense is "pass happy". Yeah, fans want a high-powered, pass happy scoring machine. I just want to win. As Bear Bryant said, "Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships".

I think it is too early to be concerned about a rb not taking the lead role just yet, I imagine one or two will emerge by the start of the season.
