Not sure who won the shid for brains contest. The guy who told the officer to go f himself or the officer who used a taser at an operating gas pump. From my personal experience, wildlife officers aren’t always the sharpest knives in the drawer buy you still should respect their badge.

Right, but the difference is we live in relative comfort compared to other countries, yet we are the most self important and neurotic.
Agree with the last part.. I'm not so sure about the first part though.

Was in Bali 2 weeks ago.. the people there are demanding a moratorium on tourism, as there are so many foreigners there now that basic traffic is now a problem along with rising crime among the vast Russian and Ukrainian populations that have taken refuge there prior to the war.

I forsee a time in the not too distant future where tourism or temporary stay permits become increasingly difficult to obtain for westerners. If SE Asia was your escape plan, I would not count on it staying that way.

As far as non tourist places like Surabaya where I am renting a house, they are building like crazy.. shop houses, businesses, roadways.. I was blown away by how much building is actually going on in the more expensive areas of the city.

I do not see anything like this in South Florida. There is a new multi family project going on about 2 miles away, but that's it for economic activity here. Texas might have a lot more going on than Florida..

So is it more comfortable here? Certainly more AC and better roads, but when a nice meal there costs $3 delivered vs $15 or more here, SE Asia feels more comfortable.. saw Odyssey in the theaters, was $6 for 2 people.. no idea what it is here.. probably take that number times a factor of 5.

I would do this if I could get 50 friends and family to go along.

Plus they also have more authority than a deputy sheriff

in my situation, I've lost my family now, and losing friends too.. sucks getting old, and I'm not even 60 yet.

for those that were curious, yes my sister died from the alcohol.. she was only 52.. it's been a tough couple of years.

from my viewpoint, every country is going through some hard times, but the social contract is pretty broken here by comparison.

Good luck with your medical care in SE Asia.

From what I've seen, the wildlife officer was in the wrong. Too many law enforcement officers think they have more power than what they actually do and often overstep their bounds. My guess is the civilian here is going to get paid $$$$.

We live better than many, but no better than many others. The world is FULL of self important a-hls. We're no different than any other country in that respect.

I think it's better than what we have in the US.. at least it is in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.. top notch UK trained doctors there and everyone speaks English.

Medical care in Indonesia is not that good, but may be on par with most places in the US.

It's sort of like the Med Center in Omaha is top notch in the country, if you have insurance and can go there.. but take a trip to Immanuel, or what's the one on 72nd.. Bergan Mercy, or another hospital, and all you get are foreign doctors.. in Florida it's even worse.. that is if you can find someone that will take your Medicare.. most healthcare in the US is sub par and God forbid anything happens to you.. you can get wiped out financially.

They actually do have medical care in other countries.
One of my kids got sick in China. Nearly died from a bacterial infection that would have likely been taken care of by a trip to one of our ERs. There’s a reason why wealthy patients from all over the world fly to the U.S. for medical care and pay cash. SOME countries have good medical care.
