Seeing multiple matches at Highbury....that's cool my friend.
Hardly, just going by what I have seen. Now that MLS is syncing their season with the rest of the non-arctic northern hemisphere maybe we can get a fair comparison on the pitch. When English teams come over to play MLS teams the MLS teams are always in mid season form and the English teams are just convening for preseason camp. Seeing them play at the same point of their seasons will be fun!
Overseas I follow Bayern Munich, but locally I'm a Birmingham Legion fan in the USL. Least the USL is introducing pro/rel soon.
I wish MLS would get involved with that. It would be awesome to have a real pyramid here. I would pay a lot more attention to US club soccer if it happened top to bottom.
MLS will never bring pro/rel to anything, to many rich owners/investors not willing to go through that risk. If the USL ever gets a bigger TV deal and brings pro/rel, I could see them surpassing the MLS. But that's probably a decade+ in the future.
USL will never be anywhere near as big as MLS. And MLS will never agree to promotion/relegation. Too many owners paid too much money to buy into a league without it. You think they’re going to vote for a chance to get relegated out of it?
I would highly recommend EPL. It's MUCH better soccer than MLS and more competitive overall than La Liga or Bundesliga, which are the other two you might consider based on availability and watchability.
My other recommendation is don't pick a non "big 6" club like I did when I latched onto Newcastle. I love the Black and White and I'm in too deep now to switch, but the spending rules simply do not allow teams outside the big 6 to compete consistently, no matter the ambitions, so it's very frustrating and a lot of pain. You're already a Mississippi State fan, so don't be a hero... Pick one of the Manchester teams, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Don't pick Spurs.
I don't want relegation and promotion in college football (bye bye SEC), but it's the ultimate meritocracy. No wonder the EPL is so good.
I accidentally came across this thread, and had to laugh at the Eurosnob takes here. I commend you for bringing facts, but these people are just too hive-minded and full of themselves to see the facts. Messi spent almost 4 years in MLS and carried a team to the WC Final with his best individual tournament performance ever. Musa scored against England, Surman against Egypt, Bethalter and Galarza against Turkey, Shaffelburg against Qatar (and O’Neil in the Round of 32 if we count forced own goals). Eustaquio a late winner against South Africa in the knockout rounds. Only Messi, the Silver Boot winner, was over 30. So many of those 44 players were young break out stars who are getting (or will soon get) big money transfers: Mbokazi, Herrington, O’Neill, Berhalter, Cubas, Moreira, etc.
MLS haters are sad people, hating on their own country’s league with nonsense.
Don't lump us all into L4's takes.

Manchester United for me. Been a pretty tough run lately, but I still catch almost every game. Glad to be back in the Champions league so we will get some extra games this year. They are the only other club/sport I follow religiously anymore besides the Bulldogs. I will also pull for Spurs if they aren't playing ManU. I got to see them play at White Hart Lane years ago so I've always kept up with them a bit ever since.

If the MS Gulf Coast got a low level pro team I would choose them.
I tried hard to get into EPL when Donovan and then Tim Howard played for Everton. I struggled to want to sit at home and watch sports Saturday or Sunday mornings in the fall/winter/spring when it's usually really nice outside. I don't really like MSU 11am games for the same reason unless I'm going.
