Tides have shifted as far as special teams. It's not that MC doesn't have a kicker or punter, they do, but they just don't use them much....I'm pretty knowledgeable of the MC roster but I couldn't tell you the kickers name in the last few seasons. I can tell you using just my fingers God gave me how many times MC punted last season. Their kicker is pretty accurate for XP's but for FG's? I have no idea because they don't kick FG's. If they are close enough to get 3 then they are close enough to get 6. If they are close to midfield then they are in 4 down territory.

Ya, that is the philosophy when you have an normal HS kicker. If MC had the best kicker in IL or really good one, I would bet that philosophy changes, especially in games like LA/BR/ESL...etc.

In the 2000s we had to play a LWC team and a Sandburg team that was in FG territory with the ball near the 50. Its annoying 😂. One of those teams (cant remember which one) would take delay of games and move it back 5 yards. Wieclaw was the LWC kicker. Cant remember the Sandburg kid.

Definitely some truth to this and I'm probably wrong with this but the first time I saw MC punt in a meaningful game last year was against BR in week 6. MC didn't punt when they should have vs ESL in 2023 and it almost costed them. I think Lynch has so much faith in his offense and defense if they miss it that he would rather go for it. MC had a real nice kicker in Louie Chappetto who was the 3 year Varsity kicker from 21 to 23 and he was just seldom used for FGs. Again I can go for 3 or go for 6 and if I miss I trust my Defense with multi D1 athletes to hold them. I also think he feels if the game comes down to MC to having to kick a FG to win they shouldn't have let it get that close. Gamblers mindset. It's worked so far so I can't fault them.

Not exactly a gamblers mindset when most every game is a blowout. Since that 2023 ESL game MC has only had 7 one score games and 3 of those were loses where a good kicker would have benefited them greatly; a 3 point loss to BR, a 2 point loss to Loyola, and a 4 point loss to Hun.

By the score you would think that but you probably don't know about those games and the score can only tell you so much so pull up a chair I'll tell you what happened.

So in the 3 point loss to BR a FG was never an option in that game. Elliott was out hurt, Dowling made his first Varsity start, MC tied it late in the game, BR drove down the field on coverage mishap in the secondary and won it on a FG with no time remaining.......Hun we actually made a FG to take the lead late in the 4th, Hun scored a TD with about a minute left, ahead by 4 the FG would have done no good so they had to go for a TD and turned it over on downs. Game is on You Tube if you want to check my math. Against LA MC was down by 8, scored a late TD, had to go for 2 to tie and missed it. BUT to your credit they had a chip shot FG opportunity in the 1st Q on their opening drive and they elected to go for the TD and try the 6 instead of 3 and were stopped. Guess he thought we went right through them on the opening drive we will have another shot and ended up hurting then because the FG would have been less yardage then an XP attempt and in may have won them the game but you never know. He maned up and took full responsibility for that call. Gamblers mindset, didn't hit that game.

In your first 2 examples you're just speaking to the final drives. There could have been a point in the second quarter where a random FG may have seemed meaningless, but as the game played out it could have been the difference between winning and losing.

Against BR there really wasn't. Elliott got hurt the week before, he was about 75% of MC offense that season, they really had to chop the playbook down and simplify it for Dowling making his first start. They had a couple drives stalled by penalties but they scored the 2 TDs and outside that they never got in range or Im guessing he would have taken the 3 attempt with their being a new QB. I'll check my math on that though but I remember that game because BR was extremely happy to beat MC but without Elliott it was like beating KC without Mahomes playing....Hun was trading of TDs, the one FG opportunity they had they took it and made it.....barely.

The lunch counter at The Diner was abuzz about the white kicker - some hoping the faithful would show grace if he ever missed a big one.

Then I heard this ... ESL now has a white tight end!!!!

I don't think that's enough whites for the Debbie the Loyola Lady to feel comfortable with them coming to LA for a night game....😂

I got to eat some crow here because I said MC hasn't used a traditional everydown TE in several years so I just thought it wasn't in the playbook but they just got a transfer in from Crown Point who definitely fits the bill of a traditional TE. All Conference in Football, Basketball and LAX so great athlete and a junior. Will be interesting to see how he is used.

ESL picks up a K and MC counters with a TE 😂

Who has the advantage at LS? Holder?
Blocking TE? Receiving type TE?

If he's just a big body blocking... eh...
If he's the modern type, Kittle type lunatic, who's gonna be hovering over the middle snagging darts... well that may be what the youngin's call "OP."

MC = Elite Skill, Elite Coaching, Elite fundamentals, Elite discipline in all aspects of life and sport. I salute thee! LS/Holder should be them... right?

ESL could throw a 5* back there as holder and still go for 2 🤔

Judging from the hype, this year's ESL is shaping up to be its best team ever. The same could be said of Carmel. Last year, MOB was premature in crowning the Caravan as the King of High School Football in Chicago. He soon will pronounce this year's team as even better. Will that be enough for them to win? I don't know. Will the Flyers self-destruct again? I don't know, but they do have a history of shooting themselves in the foot, or worse, in the groin. If they do that and MC wins, will there be an asterisk indicating that the Flyers woulda, coulda, shoulda?

Of all the words of mice and men,
The saddest are, "It might have been."

The MOB hype machine should be ramping up soon. Im gonna see if I can get him started. To be fair, what MOB is to MC, The Souc is to ESL.

Don't get me wrong, I like EStL and always have since the Shannon days, but the Flyers are not hard nosed like the 70-90s Flyers were. And I understand most teams today are not hard nosed. Going from Man blocking to cupcake Zone blocking has killed the game but still this is the Flyers we are talking about. I will take the Flyers over most teams not Cary Grove or Mighty Mt Carmel Caravan!~

On the topic of QB's...it's seemed like Shanklin is for sure the guy for the Flyers, at least on here. I know Ellington's supposed to be playing DB, but was there any thought about giving him the job?
