I'm sure the negatoids who wanted GS fired in 2004 will jump all over this with negativity. Why do they even bother attending games? Vegas indicates a good season would be 6 wins, yet they cry for 8 or fire him. Unreasonable standards. Why can't we beat Ohio State? We never beat WVU. The stupidity is off the charts. We like to whine like old women. Look at us. The defense will be worse than last year. We lost more than we added. Let the season play out. 6 wins is solid, 7 is progress, 8 is a major step forward. I'm on board for a firing if it is 5 or less absent major early injuries.

Ummmmmmm, who's fault is it that (in your words):
1. The defense will be worse than last year
2. We lost more than we added

You sound like a negatoid. In case you don't know the answer, it's this guy's fault for 1 and 2, and he owns it.

Also- beating the crappiest ACC team in BC along with UMass and Howard is 3 guaranteed wins.
Not being able muster up 4 wins against the bottom half of the Big Ten in Year 7 is not great sign of success.
Newsflash- Rutgers does not play Ohio State this year.
And long time fans who are in and/or approaching their twilight years who want to see Rutgers win like they did in 2006 (that's 20 years ago!) are not negatoids. To the contrary, they want more positive outcomes for the team they have long supported.

Enjoy the season.

Vegas doesn’t indicate a good anything. They set the initial line to get 2 sided action. The fact that they had to set the o/u at 4.5 tells you all you need to know where they “think” this season is headed.

8 better be the expectation
7 he keeps his job
6 or fewer fire his a$$
That is neither big ten title worthy or CFBP competitive. 8 would simply be long overdue progress. Thats it.

#2 is a published fact. Overcoming #1 will need schematic improvements and better execution on Defense. It doesn’t help with a HC taking 3 months (again) to find a Defensive Coordinator. The Schedule has given Schiano a major break this season despite his own undoings. 6 wins should be considered the benchmark in year 6 of a B1G HC.

I am hopeful (with nothing but hope to support this) that the defense will improve over last year. The competition is likely weaker, and the coaching cannot be worse on defense than it was last year.

Yeah me too but going from worst in FBS to simply bad for a high major isn’t going to move the needle that much in terms of BIG wins. We may not play OSU or Oregon but we will still likely be heavy underdogs in more than half our games and have around 50/50ish Vegas odds of winning the others.

Them setting 4.5 wins as the over/under absolutely provides a massive indication of what their "market" expects so that the action is split. Winning 6 when the market expects between 4 and 5 clearly indicates the team overachieved. Constantly hear people saying that Vegas favoring a team to win by 10 is not an "indication" of who they think will win. Just splitting the action, right? Check the winning percentage of teams favored by 10.

Again Vegas didn’t indicate a good anything. They don’t care who wins. They want the vig. Also them setting a 4.5 o/u is not something I would take as an indication of a successful program. Also winning 6 games is not what would be considered overachieving in anything.
A 10 point line is absolutely an indication of who they think will win. So is an o/u. Not sure what you’re getting at. Vegas thinks RU will only win less than 5 games. Not exactly a vote of confidence.

A technical fact. But a long time Rutgers fan expectation issue and crutch. Yeah , we were 500 again! "Whoppdie damn doo" . It's time to win a few games were were not favored to and beat some some teams ranked within our neighborhood regardless of anything else. Coaching matters

With that being said I am (once again..shoot me) "hoping" for a more positive season and record that starts with a 7 pre-bowl game and perhaps hits 8 afterwards..and a much more enjoyable experience when having an offense that can score 28 each week with a couple of the best players in CFB. Got Patel too. So it is all about the D and coaching. We'll see.

In 2024, neither Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, nor Oregon was on the schedule and RU still lost 5 conference games; 2 of the losses were to UCLA (one of the worst teams in the conference) and Illinois (the reason for which has been repeated ad nauseum) Last season turned on 4 games: Illinois, Iowa, Washington, and Minnesota. RU beat Washington and Minnesota the previous season. The loss to Illinois needs no further explanation. RU took the collar in all 4 games; collapsed in the second half in 2 of them, and utterly shat the bed in the other 2.

No one is demanding that RU beat the best teams in the B1G, but it's not unreasonable at this point in 2.0 to expect wins against middle and lower tier B1G programs.

And we would be remiss in not pointing out that it took a late turnover by Purdue an a field goal as time expired for Rutgers to beat a downtrodden Purdue under a first year head coach by a score 27-24.

But the season will be a success because the O/U is 4.5.

I try not to get caught up in the Football HC fate discussions anymore as it really is out of most of our control.

That being said here's my own personal barometer....

0-4 Wins.....ugh...get rid of everyone and don't want to even talk RU football

5-7 Wins.....meh....will enjoy going to games and watching....but been there/done that and a lower bowl game in a diminished bowl situation (due to the CFP) really doesn't do it for me anymore

8 Wins.....hope....I'll be much more into the prospects as well as the entire ride and ups/downs of the season

9+ wins.....would bring that 2006 experience I'm looking for again!!!!

So it begins…. lol
Seriously limiting injuries on Defense will be crucial to the success of the team this year. We don’t have the depth or talent.
Does not appear to be a big loss. From his Bio on the Team roster, appeared mostly on kickoffs:

2025 (Senior): Played in all 12 games ... selected to the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society (4/8) ... honored as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (7/13) ... named to the Academic All-Big Ten list (12/10) ... totaled four tackles ... made a tackle on kickoff coverage in the win at Purdue (10/25) ... in on a stop against Iowa (9/19) and Miami (Ohio) (9/6) ... contributed a tackle on kickoff coverage versus Ohio (8/28).

2024 (Junior): Played in all 13 games ... totaled two tackles ... saw action in the Rate Bowl versus Kansas State (12/26) ... contributed two tackles versus Howard (8/29).

2023 (Sophomore): Played in five games ... saw action in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl win over Miami (12/28) ... made collegiate debut in the win over Wagner (9/30).

6 wins gets him another year. No one expects us to beat Ohio St. We also don't expect to have the head honcho call a timeout when the kicker needs to kick a 58 yarder into a gale force wind to ice him.

The entire goal is to be decent enough until his buyout isn't financially damaging. Get him and the program through 28. Then the fun starts.

Are you brain impaired? No where did I say 4.5 is a successful program. 4.5 for Ohio State is failure. Winning 6 when the market says 4.5 is overachieving. Plain and simple. Rutgers is set at 4.5. That is the market that gets equal money on both sides. Clear indication of what is expected. I certainly hope you are not involved in any financial sector business. You'll end up broke.

You are special person aren’t you. You said “6 wins is a good season”. Your words.

Made markets in multiple asset classes for many years. Never had a problem. You on the other hand don’t know what setting a market means. When Vegas sets the bar so low. That 6 wins is a success. Therein lies the problem.

You set markets. Please tell me where and when as you clearly have no understanding on how things work. Step back and hit the bar. You posted that Vegas setting 4.5 is not an indication. That shows market ignorance. Plain and simple.

"Of course it is. You are being obstinate pal. Sorry."

makes me think instead of having an argument here , this place might be a better choice
for them to discuss their differences

As for me.
I can only hope the team will earn a bowl berth and think they should be good enough to go 7-5
