Great news. Now he gets a full four-year cycle to coach the team. He only had the team for two years prior to this World Cup, and hardly any of those games were competitive matches. Now he gets to go through a full cycle with World Cup qualifying, Gold Cup, and CONCACAF Nations League tournaments. Keeping stability in the program is vital to its continued growth.

I think a good thing overall. He met expectations in the World Cup. Slightly exceeded in the group stage and round of 32, but crashed out hard in the round of 16. But he's a good coach and it's not likely we were going to get anyone better. So yeah, lets roll with him for 4 more years.

I like his style of play and attitude a lot. Think he brought a much more focused, determined, and hard-nosed ethic with him, which some of our players needed. Need more of that.

The only decision I questioned going into the tournament was cutting Diego Luna, who I thought was a star in the making and fit the attitude he wanted. I'm not sure what happened there, but overall pleased with the job he did in the WC. Glad he's going to stay on and gets 4 years to select and train his team.

Diego Luna will never be a star. Based on talent, he should have been cut. But the reason I think it was a huge mistake to cut him is he brought that old blue collar, tough, fight against all odds, attitude the old US teams used to have and this new group is mostly lacking.

The big question is can we develop any of our younger players to fill some gaping holes we have when we play top 20 teams. To take the next step we have to find a way to close the talent gap.

It's mostly his attitude I like for sure, but I also think he's creative and fun to watch, and he doesn't really make mistakes with the ball. He has a knack for scoring when given the opportunity. He's kind of the anti-Pulisic when it comes to being a locker room guy too.

Good thing or bad thing?

I'm in favor of the stability and thought he did a pretty good job with the player pool he has. Plus his style of being more aggressive is more what Americans tend to favor watching.
This is a very good thing. I thought Alexi stating, after the loss, that he needed to pack his bags was about as dumb of a comment I've heard. Maybe he was just emotional. Of course I've grown tired of him, and I'm pretty tired of Landon running down current players who have already done more in their career than he did and are on track to do substantially more. It comes across as jealousy of some kind.

"You had one job, and you blew it... It was an abject failure... It's obviously on Mauricio Pochettino and these players. ... I just think that this cycle has run its course. ... So I think that [U.S. Soccer] moves on. I believe he's had a good time, but you had one job, and you blew it." -Alexi post-Belgium game

Alexi Lalas is a blowhard, hot take machine. He’s like the soccer version of Skip Bayless.
