Mets DFA Melendez. He excited us for a while, but ultimately most players (there are exceptions) are what the back of their baseball card says they are.
No real major league prospects in either deal-maybe the kid with HR power but seems a Clifford type at best.

I know nothing of Baseball Trade Values - I offer without endorsement. Note that they rate Pitre, and his .492 AA OBP, as the least valuable player in the deal.
Yeah im shocked they weren't able to get a 5 tool player for an aging 7th inning pitcher with recent injury issues.

MLB Pipeline has slotted the new players into the Mets Top 30: Smith #12, Pitre #15, Gill Hill #17.
That said, MLB Pipeline's exclusion of Amick, who had 23 HR's in AA in four months, causes me to view this whole thing with a grain of salt. We'll see what happens when they do their re-evaluations later this month.

No- I'm shocked that we arent in the hunt for the playoffs...Stearns had a plan when he got rid of any player we actually liked...And come next year- he will screw us up again. We have the worst GM in baseball
I would not say that at all. You won't find many catchers with a .781 OPS.
The problem is that we are all comparing him to the expectations we had of him as a Top 5 prospect. Compare him to his peers and he looks a lot better.
The Mets have a crap-ton of problems. Francisco Alvarez is not one of them.
This certainly positions the Mets to do so. If the trade doesn't happen, then it's a depth move as Ross has options.
Well that in itself is the issue. He was rated as the top overall prospect in baseball. But is just a slightly above average catcher offensively.
The Mets organization is a joke. Why anyone continues to make excuses for Stearns and Cohen is mind boggling.

Cohen is allowing this to continue by supporting and keeping Stearns. Might as well just light his $ on fire. He's worse than the Wilpons at this point because they were at least broke.
Last February, Steve Cohen make it clear that the minimum expectation for 2026 was to make the playoffs. Will Stearns pay the price for not doing so? My guess is no, but he would certainly be on the hot seat for 2027.
But none of us has any idea what Cohen is thinking. IMO, Stearns' season ends at 6PM tomorrow, as a POBO/GM has little to do from August to November. In theory, Stearns could fire him and begin the search for a replacement at 6:01. We shall see.

I have no problem that he hired Stearns- seems like most in baseball thought highly of it.
But, what Stearns has done since coming here is as bad as it gets. When we try to look at good things- I do think Clay Holmes is his shining star. But in trying to find the good things- as we saw earlier in this thread- we struggle to find an impact player and can point out less than a handful of "complimentary" players with a positive impact.
Worse yet- he has made the Met's into a place that I am not sure you could attract a top FA or even a top manager.
So tell me, when should Cohen have fired Stearns? Don't need exact date. Just give me month and year.

Based on some quick searches:
Davis is the key guy in the trade. A former teammate of McLean and Benge at OK St, with a plus fastball. Has been injured and hasn't put it together, yet. Low floor, high ceiling. Worth a flyer.
Franklin is an older guy who must be rostered, or be subject to the Rule 5 draft. Would not be surprised if he is in the Mets pen tomorrow night, and becomes a member of the Queens to Syracuse shuttle.
The unreasonable in me says June 2026 but the other part says- how can you do that right before the deadline. So- as it is, just do it now. There is nothing left for a GM to do after 6pm this evening.
I also think it may not have been unfair to say at the end of last year.
Growing tired of baseball doesn't do things out of turn, such as the team struggling again; the manager is fired. The manager didn't assemble the team. The GM/president did, and he should be held responsible too. As we watch the trade deadline take place, Stearns continues to show he wasn't fit to make decisions in a big market. Cohen is allowing Stearns to compound the problem and turn the Mets into what the Knicks were in the early 2000s until 2021, a joke that writes itself. I support the Mets because I'm a fan for life. What I can't support is the ego of Stearns as he destroys the organization to a level not seen since the early 1960s. And Doc, before you correct me with facts, it's about perception. He has the balls to act as if he is still the smartest person in the room. Met fans are angry with him, and outsiders are laughing at him.
Was starting to worry about you, thinking maybe Stearns had you removed from this thread, like he had the fan with the fire Stearns sign at Citi Field removed from the stadium. . . . .
