My question is, why fight it? Exactly what is lost by letting last year's seniors have an extra year. That's exactly what the NCAA is giving every athlete going forward so why must not just go ahead and let that be the case for last year's seniors too? I'm starting to think that the NCAA has an absolute **** legal team that can't see the forest for the trees. Seriously, has the NCAA won one legal battle in the last half decade?

Why not make it legal for all players (from the founding of the NCAA till now) receive a 5th year.

NCAA is a dinosaur and will be extinct soon, at least in men’s college football and basketball.

Might as well let this year's group get the 5th year if they're moving toward that next year.

I have read none of these positions but find the general position for the plaintiffs tenuous. I take more notice now that I see a federal judge has weighed in but only slightly. You leave school under the terms of the old rule and then after the expiration of your eligibility, the rule changes. While anyone can argue it only “fair” you be included in the new rule, “fair” is not a legal cause of action.

[edit: reading now about the antitrust arguments]

When it comes to district court decisions on national class action TROs, you really have to look to see how the representative plaintiff may have forum shopped the judge.

To the judge: why would these players have to enter the “portal” when they left their schools thinking their eligibility was over and the school considered it over as well? They don’t fit the definition of a portal player.
