Sunday (8/2) was the birthday of the late, great, Eric Garth Hudson. He was more commonly known as Garth Hudson. He was the organist for the Hawks. He stayed with them as they changed their name to the Levon Helm Sextet, then Levon and the Hawks, and finally The Band. He was probably the most musically talented of the band members, and played several other instruments (accordion, electronic keyboard, and saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, and bass)for the group. In addition, he was widely sought by a slew of artists to collaborate with, and record with, on their respective albums. Also of note, when he died last year he was the last of the original members of The Band to pass away. (I'm pretty sure I started a thread to commemorate him when he died.) To celebrate:
