Thought something bizarre had happened, like Fleck had been fired at Minnesota and I had somehow missed the news, and that the OP was about Fleck getting hired at Moo U as an assistant.
I know I’m in the minority but I believe that Fleck is a good coach and has delivered for Minnesota. 66-44 overall, 8 or more wins in 5 of 9 seasons at MN and 7-0 in bowl games. I don’t care for his antics but the guy can flat out coach.
I agree. No way I would ever want him coaching Iowa but he is a good football coach.
His personality isn't for everybody, but he does achieve. Many of his players would tell you they've grown a lot under him.
Does any football team in Minneapolis have originality or do they need to take them from European soccer teams?
Big diff between "Vikings" and "Gophers". A Gopher has nothing to do with the boat row (other than Fleck's motivational metaphor).

unfortunately in today's world the personality is what it is all about and drama and so on. not the achievements.

Nevertheless, Ferentz has dominated the head-to-head matchups. I doubt you will find a Hawk fan, myself included, who would rather have Fleck.
They have a Mascot with horned helmet , No Norseman ever by any finds ever wore a horned Helmet, Now if the Mascot had a Gjermundbu Helmet or even a appropriated Saxon nasal helm I would take that garbage Team and City with a smaller amount of distain , Gophers there is no hope for.
Fleck's act would get old for most fanbases.
Fortunately for him, Gophers can't do any better, so he's got adequate job security.

he's not a good "in game" coach...just watch nearly every Minnesota vs Iowa game since he's been in the TCs.
His bowl winning streak is the direct result of always, or nearly always, playing shiity teams in mid tier bowls.
Fortunately for him, Gophers can't do any better, so he's got adequate job security.

Fleck has a 39-40 Big 10 record. The Gophers won 9 games the year prior to his arrival. I have no idea why some think he’s so successful. As a Hawk fan I hope the continue to row their boat & sign him to a lifetime contract.
There is a sizeable Scandinavian population in Minnesota. Especially up north.

i liked him better before his stupid take after the not a fair catch tragedy. i would’ve had some respect even if he had shrugged and kept his piehole shut instead of saying some stupid things after the game
As a person, Fleck is a dork and a weirdo. Definitely not the kind of guy you want to be stuck in an elevator with.
Can't deny his success though, he's not elite, but he's a good coach. Especially during bowl time. Can't deny his spotless bowl record. But when he plays coaches who are a cut above him, he looks like a deer in headlights, which is why Kirk is so good against him. Definitely better than other coaches like Rhule, Locksley, and Schiano.

It's a mascot, not a history class. Point was, at least the norse theme and rowing makes sense for the Vikings. No connection to a furry rodent.
Actually more Norwegians than Swedes.
Germans are the largest group by far (as in Iowa) followed by Norwegian, Irish and then Swedish. I am partial to the Swedes, though. I married one.

What numbers are you referencing? Kirk has a better overall and conference win percentage than Peej.
I’m not saying Minnesota’s bowl victories deserve a statue but that he has delivered for that program.
Bowl appearances and/or victories are not automatic or likely for the program. I’ll give you Bowling Green and New Mexico but IMO victories over Auburn, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech are quality post-season wins.
….and he basically owns Nebraska (7-1) so clown or not, that’s something a Hawk fan can get behind.
Maybe I’m biased but I don’t know how players can stand him and his cheesy gimmicks. Lucky for him he wins enough for a school that is such an after thought being in a pro sports town. As others have posted I hope he stays cause Iowa and Kirk own him and flip side the boat tower has a knack for beating the huskers.

The Gopher AD is probably just happy to avoid scandals given their history in MBB, wrestling, etc.
He's a tool but I hope he stays at Minnie for a long time. We beat them every year except when the refs screw us. It wasn't a fair catch!
