Anyone besides me sick of hearing these predictions of 4-8, 5-7, 6-6, etc?

Its also part of the final weeks of summer.

I think we're all getting into "spot the ball already" mode.

Maybe if we start consistently winning 7, 8 or 9 games a year, maybe they will start predicting us to win 7, 8 or 9 games a year. It's a chicken and the egg thing...
Yes. We are usually going to be predicted to finish with a record in line with our historical performance.

I say 6-6 is the floor. Beamer will be safe for another couple of years. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I like it much better than us coming in hyped and falling on our face! I love the chip on my shoulder thing! Like Beamer said we were hyped last year and we basically have the same team this year with hopefully better O and D lines, so who know! Wait and see mode again!

We have no idea about the OL. It is all new faces and the jewel of the transfers is out for the season with an injury.

On DL, Stewart is still nursing a back injury. Back injuries don't get better by playing more football and can be lifetime things.

Definitely wait and see time.

The only idea I have about the OL is that they can't be worse. I think they have to be better by default.

Where i come from, thats called a jinx.

Seriously, both our high priced tackles have injury issues, and the entire OL is a rebuild project. Im not tempting fate by proclaiming it any sort of success before I see it on the field.

I only say that b/c last year's line was so very bad. I think it has to be better simply by default. If a new OL coach and an all new line produce the same or similar results, I'd be surprised.

I'm not saying they'll be GOOD. If the OL is below average, that's still way better than last year's.

Good point. In the best of times, a totally rebuilt oline is not a good thing. But maybe the NIL era makes it more of a norm as well.

I guess if they end up being mediocre at best, that is a major upgrade.

Beamer hasn't given the pundits any reason to predict us having anything except a mediocre season. Those are facts. That's what happens when you return a bunch of starters the previous season and win 4 games.

This is the hype time of year where the season is close, last year is most forgotten, everyone is undefeated and fans are dreaming big. I'm ready for football season too but I've been through enough of these preseason hype periods enough to know hype vs reality. I've also listened to a few Carolina "insiders" tell us what an incredible job Beamer is doing. I'll reserve judgment until the season is in full gear.

Our record is based on the average to good talent we have. The range in record is based primarily on variables like turnovers and injuries. No turnovers and injuries and we can have a good season. Too many turnovers and injuries and its a bad season. No one knows until it happens.

I think as a fanbase we’ve thought that every season since 2019. We’ve been wrong plenty of times.
I know he’s persona non grata among gamecock nation, but I remember that in his last season here Derek Watson usually had to make two moves and break a tackle just to get to the line of scrimmage.

Yeah OL often been a struggle here. I remember what you mean about Watson, he was fantastic with his head screwed on straight.

Marcus broke two tackles every play too. We think our oline was so much better, but it wasn’t. Marcus was a man among boys. That Georgia game his first year was a great example.

damn, it's getting old.
I read somewhere that the average age of the college football fan is in the 37-44 age group. Looking around the stadium when I attended one game last season, I think that's accurate. I'm well beyond that age group. I suspect most on this forum are as well. Honestly those predictions and how we actually do don't bother me. I'd like for us to win but, "C'est la vie". And I probably take that approach because I'm used to it. Those 20-45 are not accustomed to it.

I think we've talked about this before. But I am noticing the next generation (my kids specifically) are not nearly as interested as I was at that age. To a large degree.

My entire family has supported the Gamecocks since back in the 1970's (club memberships, season tickets, several road games, etc). None of us really get excited anymore as the season approaches because we all know that disappointment and mediocrity will settle in sooner or later. It seems like every year there's less and less anticipation. Most of you probably don't care what we do but none of us are willing to spend our hard earned money anymore on memberships and/or season tickets. We'd rather use the money for fun stuff like nice vacations and seeing other parts of the world. :)

6 is the floor. We play Kent State , Towson and Mississippi State to start off 3-0. Then we play 3 teams that were so bad that they have new Head Coaches ....Kentucky, Florida and Arkansas. And let's not forget that this is Shane's 6th season coming up, not his 2nd or 3rd, If we don't win at least 6, Shane needs to turn in his keys,

Although true, that does not necessarily equate to wins on our part. UF still has more talent than we do,

The bottom-line is that this will be Shane's 6th season here. Yes, 6 wins is the floor in Year 6 of his time here. 6 wins gets us into a bowl. Is THAT TOO MUCH to ask for in his 6th season? Spurrier beat them AT GAINESVILLE in Year 6 of his time here. If we are going to give Beamer a "pass" this season, we might as well drop football. We are wasting our money and time. South Carolina should not be an "assisted living facility" or "nursing home" for Head Football Coaches. Again, I believe if he can't win at least 6 with this schedule, he needs to be escorted out the door.

If I'm wrong, convince me. I'm open-minded and willing to reverse course.

Hey, do we still want to do that Shane vs Spurrier conparison? Remember when that was all the rage when Shane was within a couple games?

Well, if we really want to, Spurrier won 9 games his 6th season here. He won the division and made it to the SEC championship game. Then lost that and the bowl.

So that's what Shane will do, right?

Would you say the same about Mississippi State? Mississippi State’s overall winning percentage is a shade less than ours. Since Jackie Sherrill, they have changed their HC roughly every 3.5 years and where has that gotten them; they’re a gimme on your season prediction. We’re probably one on their fans’ predictions. Why do we expect “better” than them? We deserve a Cignetti and Mark Cuban at South Carolina? Why?

I’m not interested in “convincing” anyone to keep Beamer, but at the same time I’m comfortable and hopeful with where we are and at the same time cognizant of our “lane”. It’s college football man; entertainment. As you and I both have posted, Steve Spurrier needed a one time freak crop of local guys falling in his lap to make any noise, and regardless of the common message board caveats, if SPURRIER couldn’t do it, whether he was his “best” self or not, I don’t believe a Cignetti without a Cuban will either. I believe there is no more profit for us in letting Beamer go especially with the new AD overseeing things than in bringing in the next head coach hire press conference.

Now if we come out laying lizard eggs, I’ll show him the door myself.
