Transition to NIL is like going from a hot gf or wife to a high-priced hooker.

Or taking a hot girl on a date because she wanted to go with you vs taking a hot-hooker on a date because you paid her to go with you so you could look good in front of others. Can one really feel pride in the latter as much or more as the former?

Maybe some guys can be happy knowing the chick is being paid to pretend to like you, but not me. Was just thinking that's close to how I feel about supporting teams built on NIL.

Tell me how I'm wrong?

Great analogy for the current state of things. Hookers for sure and we are the Johns.

Prior to 2020, I'd say the relationship between players-school/fan. Felt more like hiring a contractor to do a job. The contractor was appreciative of the job and wanted to do a good job to grow their business (NFL). You were satisfied with the results.

Then 2020.... they had to start asserting their political opinions in and with nil passing..... the downward spiral....

Players were paid way before NIL, this is not new. College football has always had teams that paid it's players. Sure the price has gone up since it's been legitimized.

I personally have no problem with them getting paid. You want to fund it, go for it. The sport generates tons of money through TV deals, ticket sales, merchandise and concessions. Why should the coaches be only ones getting paid, they aren't the ones putting their bodies on the line. Many if not most will have pain the rest of their lives.

Smaller schools actually can win now faster than ever if they have rich fans willing to fund the NIL.

I do hope they figure out a way to limit transfers though. Coaches can go as they wish but.... they have contracts that require buyouts etc...

Why should CEOs get paid the most when the warehouse worker does the hard labor?

Why shouldn't MSU General students get paid?, The school itself generates more revenue than athletics.

The athletes have been paid by the schools for years. Scholarships, stipends, special tutoring, special treatment. On and on...

This is just more of "good wasn't good enough" so they asked for more and the cucks can't help themselves.

I won't give a dime to nil ever.

CEO"s should not get paid millions if their employees aren't well paid. Walmart is the most subsidized company in the world. HOW? Most of it's employees are getting food stamps, subsidized housing and many don't have insurance which means we pay for their hospitalization. That is BS and why there should be a minimum wage that forces companies to pay a liveable wage. Then and only then should be allowed to pay anyone millions.

General Students paid? Does anyone pay money to go see them do anything? Nope, Stupid comparison

Athletes got a scholarship but that is a drop in the bucket compared to the money they generate. NFL stars make many times over what the coaches make for a reason. The athletes are what makes the sport, not the coaches.

"This is just more of "good wasn't good enough" so they asked for more and the cucks can't help themselves." What are you a Communist or something? Free Market at its finest is just now hitting College sports. The people that are putting their bodies on the line are finally getting paid and you don't like it. Must tough on a snowflake to see others do well.

Nobody really gives a shlt about your moral conundrum. Bottom line is, we wouldn't be in this situation had the NCAA not done two stupid things;

- Given out the death penalty to SMU (i.e. doubling down on stupid) when it was clear there was a big black market for boosters wanting to pay players. NIL should have been legalized in some form or fashion at that time;
- Tripled down on that by making money THEMSELVES off video games, merchandise, etc.

This whole dumbassedry about the laborers getting paid, etc. is just stupid liberal weak-minded fodder talk for sports journalists and idiots like you. Your Walmart example is also stupid, people get paid what they are worth, period.

You're not wrong for us commoners but for an egotistical gazillionaire with so much money he doesn't know what to do with it.......Why not have both a hot wife and a high price hooker . We just don't seem to have enough (any) gazillionaires .

I'd like to know how the subscription sites are doing. In my mind, that's what truly gone......the day to day following of the program, specifically recruiting. Comparison would be between 2018 until now. In my mind, I could not imagine that they are up.......but in reality I'm betting they are. So it seems people are getting over it and moving forward. I'm just not one of them.

If you think people get paid what they are worth then what is your problem with players getting paid? You just can't get out of your own way can you?

Since the "sport generates tons of money through TV deals, ticket sales, merchandise, and concessions" , which is all fan generated funds by the way, why is it the fan that they still want to GIG for the NIL too?

I've seen the analogy used saying NFL teams don't worry the hell out of their fans for every nickel and dime they can to pay salaries for their teams, why shouldn't the universities pay the NIL fees?

"So you good with all of us (fans) subsidizing" the universities and conferences by having to pay the players too instead of the universities paying them from their tv money, concessions, tickets, parking, etc?

What's the difference in WalMart (not paying employees well) and Universities (not paying players)?

They aren't gigging you for the NIL. It's a choice, you absolutely do not have to pay it in order to watch MSU sports.

NFL analogy is dumb, too. Tickets and the amounts you pay to cable are much higher.

Fans (albeit rich ones) are the ones who have always paid the NIL (now and in the black market era). And that should continue, though they are consistently trying to saddle the schools with it.

You don't feel gigged every time the phone rings w/ MSU on the caller ID begging for more? You don't feel gigged when they start a new "parking premium fee" in addition to the old parking lot fee? You don't feel gigged by $13 beers that cost them just over $1?

They aren't gigging me either, but the ones that pay it are being gigged at every opportunity by the university who still isn't paying for NIL while increasing all fan generated payments.

You say athletes should get paid because "they generate money". If it wasn't for the 20k students MSU wouldn't generate any revenue either and would cease to exist.

Let me ask, If the players themselves were so valuable, then why does a player from a G5 make zip and then all of sudden make much more in the sec. Why can't they get corporate deals on their own? Why does the Alabama QB get a subway commercial deal when the Mississippi state QB can't even come close to national endorsement? It's because the school themselves are the brand.

It has nothing to do with free market. It has to do with rich people that can't stand that a dude that run and jump higher may go to another school. If all these rich people had handshake agreements to not give, nil would cease to exist and these players would still clamor to play in the sec or B1G. (Will never happen, I know)

Just to be clear, I didn't think it was right Ed Obannons name image likeness was used on a game platform and he wasn't compensated.

I agree college players should be allowed the opportunity to have LEGITIMATE business opportunities.

I do NOT agree with the pay for play, which is what most NIL money is. Just a bribe to get a player to one school over another.
