I’m still a Jersey Mike’s guy.

But I admit to having had flirtations with Subway, WhichWich, and Jimmy John’s. Honestly, my answer may have been Blimpie back in my Chapel Hill days. Those sweet peppers were so good.

Jersey Mike's, by far.

Before we got one in our area, I used to eat at Blimpie, which was decent, but Jersey Mike's absolutely blows them away.

Ate at Subway once, had a bad experience, and never ate there again.

I've eaten at Jersey Mike's twice and was not impressed. Firehouse subs is expensive but the money goes to charity so I don't mind. There are a lot of privately owned sub shops in my area that are great, but Subway still is my top choice.

Subway in the early ‘80s on Franklin Street when they channel cut the bread and had real pastrami!!! Toasted (actually microwaved) before the vegetables were added. OMG I ate hundreds of those. The manager was a bit heavy and had a mustache. Probably early 30s in age. A nice guy who treated the customers well.

Subway tried about 10 years to bring back pastrami, but it was a nasty, trashy, gristly mess. I moved to on Jersey Mike’s when it opened. The franchise owner is an acquaintance, is local, and has a nice family.

Jersey Mikes....that one when you get off 40 heading into Chapel Hill is a pick up a ton of them tailgate for a game a year too.

Firehouse is very solid, but like someone said, high dollar.

Subway was a poor fresh out of school workers dream back in the day.

I thought Which Wich reached a peak none of the others ever touched, but it was brief and their quality descent happened just as fast as their rise.

I would also pick Firehouse over Jersey Mike’s, though I also enjoy JM and eat there more than any other option.

I’ve always thought JM’s bread is about 20% more dense than I prefer.

Honorable Mention shoutout to Quizno’s. I actually saw one recently but I couldn’t eat there at the time and can’t remember why. Maybe I had just eaten elsewhere. I was very disappointed. I read a good article one time about their downfall. It was entirely a strategic business mistake and had nothing to do with their quality or popularity. It was a great economic lesson.

Jimmy John’s or Jersey Mikes for me. Just depends on the day.

If you liked Quiznos, Potbelly is an excellent alternative. They toast their subs similar to how Quiznos did. Not sure how major of a chain they are though.

Jersey Mike's for me too mostly because they have decent gluten free bread for my wife. When I'm on my own, I tend to avoid chains and look for a well-regarded local joint.
