How much does basketball generate? If those funds were put towards football, how good would you have to be to surpass basketballs revenue? Also stop investing into WBB
It’s going to be hilarious when Lebby gets fired, how much talk we’ll hear about increasing the NIL budget to compete in the SEC. As if we weren’t told loudly and repeatedly the past 2.5 seasons that “NIL isn’t the problem!”

I am just about sick to death of the conversation around college athletics being largely made up of words like "revenue", "earnings", "investment", and "budgets".

Why does literally everything have to be about extracting as much money from people as possible. Can't some things just be fun?
Men's basketball makes a little money most years. It's the only thing besides football that does. It's not enough to pay for any other sport though.
You're absolutely right, it's been trending that way for a while now. It really seems like in the last 2-3 years ( I guess the NIL era?), it has accelerated drastically to the point that budgets and salaries are the whole point.
I think the main point is you can’t even afford to have a mediocre roster at this point and break even. The right way to do it in the current environment is to intentionally field a low budget loser in some sports to maximize profitability, and then apply that profit toward sports they can compete for championships in.
You are missing the nuance. NIL isn't the problem with recruiting players, but NIL will be the problem with recruiting a new coach.** I put sarcasterisks, but I'm not sure if I'm kidding.
If you're bottom 1/4 of the league in recruiting and in NIL, NIL is absolutely a problem.

I think just about everyone is sick of it. I’m also sick of being squeezed out of every nickel the AD can get its hands on. And I can’t fault them for it, because that’s their job, but it still sucks.
They have to try to convince you we’re not that far behind in NIL, because you need to feel like your $ could make a difference.

The average (estimated) basketball roster cost in the SEC for 26-27 is over $18 MM, with 2 or 3 teams exceeding $30 MM.
There is no tangible ROI for that. All you can hope for are satisfied boosters who keep giving money. One of those teams might bring home a championship, sure, but thats not worth any money. It just means more booster support, which hopefully spills over to the academic side.

Covid started this whole world-a-changing stuff. Then when MSU won a national championship, it was simply too much, whole system had to be blown up, which happened literally the following week.

Meh we’re in roughly the same place historically. This stuff caused the most upheaval in the top 30 or so capable programs.
Blue bloods of old like Bama got relegated and opened the door for the big money but second tier programs to make noise. It’s not a 100% consistent formula but nothing ever is, you get the point though.
I’m not worried about winning championships in football or basketball, although with a few lucky bounces( pun intended) program like State could make a 6 game run to glory in BBK in either Men’s or Women’s. Unfortunately, State and its fan base have to fund football just to make the lower tier bowl games.
Also Softball was 32-20 (11-13), so he probably spends more on softball.
