Mrs. Salty talked me into going with some friends last week to NYC to see them. The show was only ok. It was evident that JBJ can't sing like he used too. They didn't play some of their early hits from their first two albums. As usual, NYC is the armpit of society. Been a few years since I'd been there and the whole place smelled like weed and piss. I did get to see a woman walking around with nothing on but a t shirt. Let me take that back, she also had on shoes. It was a nice look for sure. With moderators permission I would post.

Interesting. NYC is one of my favorite places to visit. My initial impression was a work trip back pre-9/11 and I hated it. Begrudgingly went back under pressure from the fam and really enjoyed the food, history and entertainment. I was 100% certain that I was not going to enjoy a Broadway show, as I'm not a Broadway show kind of person. Turns out I was 100% wrong. Chalk one up for the family being right and my first impression being at least dated, if not wrong. Pretty sure NYC changes over time and has its ups and downs like everywhere else.

It made the news that Jon had to stop in a recent concert and it happened that Pat Monahan from Train happened to be at the show and he finished up the show for him.

As for NYC, even though I grew up on the outskirts I never loved the city. The last few times I have been back it just reminds me why I am glad I moved away in the 1980s. I guess it can be a good visit and I still do miss the food but everything else just ruins it for me. PS. Live shows and plays are great experiences. Broadway is the pinnacle of that type of entertainment.

Yeah, we went to the show on Tuesday night and I could tell JBJ was struggling a bit. Thursday he cut it short citing some health issues but promised to re-schedule. Problem with that is there were a ton of folks there from out of town that probably won't be able to make it back. Don't get me wrong, there's a part of NYC that I do like (food, history, sightseeing, etc.) but I'm not a subway and bus kinda guy. Uber prices are unreal. The taxi driver's hate them. Always wanted to go to John's on Bleeker Street (coal fired pizza) and it was outstanding. Dave Portnoy gave it over a 9 so you know it's good.

Edited to add: I hesitantly admit that I went to a broadway show. I typically don't like productions that just burst out in song and dance. I guess time has mellowed me a bit but we saw the classic "The Outsiders" and it was very good. The woman who played the star role of Cherry Valence (Diane Lane in the movie) was from Oxford. You just can't get away from those effers.

We must have been there at the same time. Wife tried to talk me into buying tickets to see them and I politely declined. Went and watched Dodgers/Yankees and Pirates/Yankees. Son got Mangum's autograph.

You are correct about the constant smell of weed. You couldn't escape it.

The Argentinians took over Times Square before the World Cup final and the Spaniards took it over after.

I'll be okay if I never ride a subway again and I'll be okay if I never go back.

As far as travel, American Airlines is dead to me.

@SteelCurtain74 Yep, we would've had some overlap. I wanted to go to the Yanks/Pirates doubleheader on Wednesday but we already had tix for other stuff. Yeah, we went to Times Square a couple of times or at least passed thru there and you are correct. Looked like a third world country. I might ride the subway but will not do it during peak hours and I absolutely under no circumstances will ever ride the bus again.

My family just got back from NYC and had a fantastic time. We were there for the Yankees/Pirates double header on Wednesday. We spent 6 days there and enjoyed it very much. There is so much to do and so much history there. You have to do your research and plan things that are appropriate for your family. While we did see homeless and some sketchy things it was not nearly as bad as New Orleans, Memphis or Washington DC by a mile. If you go to any large city in the country you cannot escape the weed smell... it's everywhere- not strictly a NYC problem. Judging NYC by Times Square is like judging New Orleans by Bourbon St. There is so much more to the city than Times Square. We did a pedi-cab ride through Times Square and then briefly walked through it on our way to the Broadway show and that was enough for us. We did navigate the subways and utilized the cabs and Ubers and had no issues, while the subway can be crowded at times it is an extremely efficient way to navigate the city. We went to the Harry Potter show on Broadway and it was great. Tried to get tickets to MJ the Musical but last minute tickets were 500 each so we did not. Between the Upper East and West Side, Midtown, Central Park, East Village, Arthur Ave in the Bronx( the real Little Italy), Museum Mile, Chelsea, Hudson Yards etc, there is so much to see and do. We had such a great time that we are already planning trip back at Christmas to see the city at it's finest!

Saw BonJovi multiple times back in the day. It was the wife’s favorite band. His newer stuff sucks. I’ve been to NY once in my life and that was enough to last a lifetime. I wouldn’t go to NY to see Elvis!

Thread detour with the mention of Train. "Smokes a pack a day, no wait that's me, but anyway" up there on my all time song lyric list. What a great song and vocal.

#1 remains "Whiskey bottles, brand new cars, oak tree you're in my way". 3 simple lines tells you all you need to know what's going on and the point of the song (and the intro way up on the all time list as well).

So we didn't get to do much in that part of lower Manhattan and the Lower East Side this trip. We only went to Chinatown in that area. Skipped over it to take in the sights of the Financial Dist. That area is on our list for December as we want to tour the Tenement Museum. Katz's Delicatessen and Russ and Daughters is on the list. I'll have to look into La Bella Vita.
