As reference, we were picked 13th last year and finished 14th.

Quick math- based on the above, that means Rutgers should finish 10th or 11th this year.

Since I was back in NJ/PA last week I decided to place a bet on the season for Rutgers. I took them to win exactly 5 games at +330. Happy to be wrong, but it seemed like the best bet available

Don't care what they predict pre-season.
Post season play is what matters

But when the pre-season polls start to make RU FB look good
Hear me brag about it

Games will be played, but this is an absolute worst case scenario for this season. I'm expecting a middle of the B10 defense and that our offense will exceed expectations given WR talent and a top notch RB. If crippling injuries hit the top performers, may bottom 15. If we finish this low, fire GS. But I highly doubt that we will fail like this.

You seriously expect a middle of the pack defense? Based on what, exactly? We weren’t even a middle of the pack MAC defense last year and our paper talent level arguably went down, not up. Sure, the coaching had nowhere to go but up, but Johansen would have to win defensive coach of the year if we’re middle of the conference pack.

I'd love to see a historical analysis of where Rutgers football and basketball teams have been predicted to finish versus how they actually finished over the past, say, 20 years or so.

For example, wasn't the basketball team predicted to finish 17th or 18th last year, yet finished 14th?

I'd bet the ranch Rutgers almost always outperforms the expectations of the "experts".

Well ending the season # 14 isn't the best way to exceed expectations , nor feel good about.
I'm hoping for better.

Middle of the Big Ten defense? Based on what? New coaching alone?

We all want to be optimistic but this is not good. Greg talking about national championships and our peers see us in 17th. Big disconnect.

Mind you, no one has watched their defense or done any research. Never mind Greg took over easier part of schedule and defense wasn't better. I do think no way to go but up. 90s level defense is bad, not a positive in my eyes

Well in his defense , he's got to speak like that id hope every coach does

Agree but its still better!
Northwestern finished #15 with a 5-15 conference record to RU's 6-14, but the Wildcats full schedule came out 15-19 to RU's 14-20 , keeping me from being happy that Rutgers was ranked higher in conference play results .
Being better than predicted is something to be happy about, only if your team wins more than it loses and nothing to brag about if you don't qualify for post season play while proving the "experts "wrong

Pointing out being better then predicted reminds me of when the RU FB program was so bad that the fanbase seemed happy after a loss ,because it wasn't the blowout everyone expected.

I do think the D will end up better, almost because the alternative is just shut it all down, but I'm not sure the talent is better so its completely a belief coaching would be. Agree, Greg didn't make a difference last year whether people want to believe it or not.

Ok but who takes this guy serious? If you honest with yourself, no one takes him serious anymore!
