One of the most hated one and done’s from Cal for no reason. Guy was the only person with a pulse on that team when Nerlens went down. If he was on a better team he would have been a beast. His driving ability was John Wall level. Defenses knew it was coming and couldn’t stop him. I don’t think he would have been as big of a ball hog if he had people to pass to.

This is a good take. Hell, I admit I sort of couldn't stand him. So many charges. But you're right, there wasn't anyone to realisticallty pass to.

Agreed, he played hard every game too. Only creator we had. He was a beast and his HS tapes were amazing. He was like Malik Monk 1.0. I guess I should say Malik was like the improved Archie Goodwin 2.0.

I don't get the Goodwin hate either that dude had to carry that team when Noel went down he did what he had to do....He tried his best and to be honest that team should've made the tournament anyway. That Noel injury was a big blow.

Have we entered the Archie Goodwin twilight zone? Zero reason to hate the young man but my goodness guys. He was a non threat from three, couldn’t hit FTs and turned the ball over a ton.

He wasn’t on a great team and again, no reason to hate the guy but some of you all are misremembering who he was during his one year here at UK.

Not necessarily. I think it’s more realizing the lack of talent he had around him and understanding why he was ineffective in those areas you described. After Nerlens went down, he was tasked with a heavy load and tried too hard to make things happen. Willie was raw, Ryan Harrow wigged out and Julius Mays was a decent player but his ceiling wasn’t very high after transferring from a mid major. Poythress was inconsistent. Wiltjer was an unathletic one dimensional player.

What are we doing here guys? Nerlens played “most” of the year. Archie is/was a talented young man but he wasn’t good or Malik Monk adjacent his freshman year at UK.

Who said he was as good as Malik? Nerlens played 23 full games out out of 33 and only averaged 10.5 ppg. He was a rim protector. It’s ok to acknowledge Archie’s contributions/inefficiencies with proper perspective.

You guys got me. Archie was awesome his one year at UK. 26% from three, 63% from the line, 100+ turnovers and constantly out of control but it’s because Nerlens missed the last 9 games of the year. Okey doke.

He took less than 2 threes per game and averaged 14ppg when defenses honed in on him. Who else was scoring? Julius Mays? Polson? Harrow? Don’t forget almost 5 rebounds per game and he was asked to play PG because Harrow was a head case with his Dad being sick.

Now now. Percentages are 'hate,' err sumthin. The needless virtue signaling that dishonestly calls criticism hate, is so annoying and prevalent on this board.
He was a very frustrating player to watch in his time here. Clearly athetically talented, but he needed some time to develop. Can't count how many times he would put his head down and plow over a defender that has been planted to take a charge the whole time.
