They had the Egg Bowl on the SEC channel. I just wanted to watch our offense. In the 4th quarter they were 2nd and 1. They did not get a first down. He threw the ball deep on 2nd and 3rd. Then I don't know if it was a scramble or a busted pass but got tackled for a loss. Ball turned over on downs. His itched to throw to the endzone every play has to stop. Just like overtime in the Texas game. The first play they threw to the endzone. "Dropped." Second play threw to endzone. "Dropped." Third play threw to the Endzone. "Dropped." Fourth play false start backed up five. Second try at fourth play, threw to endzone. "Dropped." Lose game. Just play to get the first down. He makes some dumbass coaching decisions. He needs to have one consultant standing next to him watching the clock to help him with time management. He needs another to stand next to him and keep reminding him not to call stupid plays. It appears he is having to hire all these extra consultants because he insists on being OC and HC at the same time and he can't do it. I am not saying it can't be done but he can't do it right now. He probably could be a good HC but not being an OC at the same time.

That's my last negative ***** at least until middle season if things are going bad. Flame away boys.

We keep complaining about his coaching vs teams with vastly better players. It could be that the margin for error was non existent last year & we were lucky, that due to good coaching, we had a chance to win a number of games we didn't.

Lebby was 5-0 last year vs teams we had a better Blue chip ratio than & 0-7 vs ones in which we didn't.

This year we have equal or better blue chip ratio than 6 teams we play but at QB that can take over games.

My guess is Lebby looks magically better this year

Nah. I want him fired if we don't win more than 6 games. I'm not a Lebby apologist at all.

I just want to make sure that everyone understands that we only blame him for losing close games to vastly more talented teams while giving him no credit for actually having a chance to beat those teams.

So you think we were on equal talent footing vs Texas, TN, & Florida last year?

If not, why did we have a chance to win?
We had a chance to beat Tennessee because they overlooked us. You can make a good argument in favor of Lebby for this one. Even though he did kinda choke it away, I was never too hard on him for this one.

We had a chance to beat Florida because they had completely thrown in the towel and knew their coach was getting fired the next day. Florida was absolute dogshit last year, and it was Lebby's worst game of the year. And I'm not just talking about throwing the pass at the end, I mean that we should have never been trailing late in the first place. I've talked to a couple of Florida fans out in the world since then, all of them were completely incredulous that we didn't beat them last year, not because they thought we were good, just that any team with a pulse should have easily beaten a team who completely didn't care.

We had a chance to beat Texas because Arch sucked for much of the year, and they overlooked us. Good job coaching the offense from Lebby for 3 quarters, but bad job overall as a coach, and letting it slip away because he kept snapping it with 20 seconds to go was incredibly stupid.

Any coach we would have plausibly hired would be at least 7-18 right now, a lot of them would have 8 or 9 wins, the good ones 10 or more. Lebby hasn't done anything special or impressive.

This is pretty poor ole. I can’t get inside the other team’s mentality well enough to know why we almost beat them

Texas clearly played down to their competition at times. They played MSU, UK, and Florida (combined 5 SEC wins) and went to OT against two and lost to the other.

Texas wasn't very good last year. I don't think Sark is very good personally. I expect them to underachieve this year again.

Actually, the "poor ole" is the guy who thinks 7-17 (1-15) is the best we can hope for.
And here is the misconception from you and others. Y’all think we are happy with the record and that’s completely false. We aren’t happy but we know what was inherited from a roster, budget, and NIL standpoint. We also know that Lebby has to win this year or he’s gone. That’s not po ol. We know he has to win, Lebby and staff know they have to win, and the administration knows he has to win. We asked Lebby this offseason to increase our talent level… he did that… we asked that increase his staff and upgrade assistants.. he did that. We are willing to see how this season plays out but Lebby has done what we asked him to do off the field now it’s time to execute on the field.

I seriously doubt we had to ask Lebby to increase his talent level & hire better coaches.

Did we not talk about this. As a fan base we wanted Lebby to do those two things. Yes? I have no doubt he wanted too. I didn’t think that needed to be mentioned
You make it sound like he's the most uncompetitive coach/person of all time. We had to ASK him to upgrade talent & coaching?

Geez, I hope he wanted to try to win.

Question for you. Why do you have to ask a football coach to acquire talent and staff? Especially one in year three? You would think that would be a given.

And before you rinse and repeat with the “he inherited crap” BS, it isn’t 1985 anymore.

Well most of us thought 7-17 (1-15) was bad enough that it should triggered a firing, while others said it was the best poor ole Mississippi State could have hoped for and gave him another year.

If Lebby does end up getting fired this year (probably > 80% chance of that, just going by FPI or other metrics), then this was a completely wasted season that didn't have to be.

No, he knows what that roster and Nil looked like before Lebby got here and can actually see both improving. 1-15 ain’t getting it done, we all know that and many also see the flaws of his in-game issues causing a couple games they could have won to be losses.
Thing is, Lebby can learn too and improve on those mistakes.

This season will go on how well that OL PLAYS which will make every decision easier and more likely to work no matter which way he goes with a play call. I do have hope these guys will be much better but we will not know until the games are played.

No one is ever going to convince the vast majority of our fans that our roster was SO hopeless than getting blown out and humiliated by Toledo is acceptable.

If he'd finished 4-8 in 2024 and seemed competent, just outmatched, then sure, I would believe the "he did the best he could with the resources he had" argument. But that's just not what our eyes told us.

You dont read well do you. I pointed out that as a fanbase we wanted Lebby to make better hires and accumulate better talent. what’s so hard for you to understand

you are current it’s not 1985 but we had less than about 6MM in NIL. Add to that a depleted roster, a very small coaching staff pool to hire assistants you get a total rebuild.

I don't think that anyone truly believes there are folks satisfied with the results.

What does seem to exist, though, is a segment of fans who view any criticism as an attack on the program itself. It's a mindset that's reminiscent of gene's page from 20+ years ago.

It’s called coach effect. What you describe is average, and as you move forward into successive years, it becomes below average.

It’s the job of a college coach to improve talent, that’s what wins. There are more than one ways to do that and it’s not always shown in rankings.

ETA: Continuing to run typical MSU talent out on the field while doing what other folks are doing is not a smart plan. It's a total lack of a plan. That's why it seems as if we are reduced to simply begging for donations to 'get better talent'. Same as the Croom Error, wait til next year when he gets his guys in, and all that.

I don't think Lenny is a bad coach, honestly. I don't think Croom was all that bad, potential wise. I think a lot of coaching is being in the right situation and figuring out what you do well. and they were just terrible fits for MSU football. Nothing illustrates this more than Ed Orgeron. Hell even Danny Boy.

BUT does Lebby have the ability to identify and exploit his blue chips' strengths against the weaknesses of the opponents? Especially at QB. That's what worries me. Does he really know how to figure out what he needs as far as recruits and then use what they are good at in games. I've said it 100 times, but I'd LOVE to see what Mullen could do with a QB like KT. I'm worried Lebby is gonna waste some legit talent there this year.

I had almost forgotten about those three games. I'm still sure not which one of them was the worst. I suppose the last second win against ASU made up a little but not much. The year could have been worse, but could have been a whole lot better.

How could anyone forget about these epic crapping of the beds by Lebby? The TX game was the nail in the coffin for me, he just had the perform basic clock management but NOOOOOOO he had to ride or die #showtime! I can't wait for the clown to move on.

Croom was a horrible coach. He had no potential. MSU being the only organization to give him a chance to be a head coach tells you all you need to know about both him, and MSU at the time.
