They are afraid of failing without taking money from Iowa's success. Earning and keeping your pay on your own merits doesn't seem to mean much in clownland.

Nobody ever accused hawk fans of being the brightest bulbs. Understanding basic business concepts is key. Oh, and eventually the state will even out the taxpayer support it provides Iowa and ISU since significantly more Iowa residents attend ISU.

??????? Hey there brighter bulb. Explain how Iowa tax payers have anything to do with funds going to athletic programs? They don't support Iowa athletics, so I guess if they do at ISwho, then you guys really are a welfare case.

The BIG 10 would never allow revenue to go to a non member school. It would get Iowa kicked out of the big 10.

You already know the answer, sport. Did ISU Athletic Dept borrow any funds to meet budget? In fact, ISU had a $50M surplus. If you don’t understand the basics, go read up.

ISU chose to burn through its reserves instead of leveraging historically cheap debt during COVID. Even Ohio State understood the value of preserving financial flexibility. Draining your savings when capital was dirt cheap was not strategy. It was a colossal mistake. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Basic business concepts would tell you to never pay back a loan early at 2.5%. It’s hilarious that someone would point that out as a poor business practice. And keep dreaming about the state of Iowa stepping in to level the playing field, not happening.

So you believe ISU burned through reserves, sport? ISU AD is fiscally responsible. We aren’t being drawn into constant litigation because of questionable practices in our athletic department. Btw, if that covid debt was so cheap then why is it being extended by 15 years. For an athletic department that supposedly is flush with revenue, Iowa obviously has poor leadership or just an inability to manage finances.

Oh boy. It’s becoming painfully obvious the non-AAU landscaping school in Ames doesn’t have a college of business.

Here, let’s repeat the lesson: preserving cash and borrowing at historically low rates during a once-in-a-century financial crisis is standard financial management. Burning through reserves isn’t.

CFOs generally preserve cash when they can borrow at historically low rates, especially during an unprecedented crisis. Ohio State did. The University of Iowa did. Plenty of others did. ISU chose the opposite approach.

As for Iowa refinancing or extending debt, that’s standard financial management, not evidence the original decision was wrong. Debt gets refinanced all the time for cash flow, interest rates, or capital planning.

Then again, this is Land Grant U we’re talking about, not a place that has a Tippie College of business.

Not at a state owned entity. Capital projects are obviously addressed with debt financing, not athletic department operational needs. Iowa borrowed $50M from taxpayers to keep the lights on, and now has basically refinanced and extended the debt because of an apparent inability to service the debt.

The Iowa athletic department did not borrow the 50 million from the state of Iowa, it borrowed the money from the University of Iowa. The UI will continue to receive payments from the athletic department at 2.5 per annum.

ISU will continue to shake it's tin cup to the state legislature begging for funds for athletics. They also pray for federal legislation forcing Big Ten and SEC schools to give money to clown sports and other poors.

Exactly. Iowa basically borrowed money from itself. Meanwhile, ISU is dropping sports and halting improvement projects, and STILL can’t make ends meet.

Pollard is smart enough to know what the future will bring, and is getting out of town before ISU’s house of cards falls apart.

The University of Iowa's annual budget is funded 25 to 27 percent by the state of Iowa. Clown College is at about 23 percent.

Considering Iowa's medical, law, dental schools, etc., it should probably receive more. Plus a university in the prestigious Association of American Universities (only 71 AAU members) and the research dollars it brings in.

If I want a vet to fix Fido I will look for a clown grad.

The Ivy College of Business ranks #1 for the best college of business in Iowa. ( 2026 Niche’s Best Colleges of Business)

You are SO far out over your skies here. Iowa managed the money available at a low interest, knowing full well they're flush going forward, and your new AD will be standing on corners with a cardboard sign. While THE University of Iowa is building new state of the art wrestling facilities and improvement/renovations to Carver and Kinnick, The clones will be holding their aging facilities together with duct tape and baling wire.

You have literally NO idea about any "apparent inability to service debt" NONE. Yet you continue on to troll here. As has been posted only about 25% of the U of I's budget comes from the state. The largest portion comes from tuition revenue and industry funding such as clinical trials, and federal funding.

Other Clonewithasigh causes:

— a government funded 100% GLP-1 subsidy for ISU cheerleaders.

— a new law making it a Serious Misdemeanor for anyone to utter, articulate, or otherwise refer to Cyclone fans, coaches, or players as “Clowns”.

— a petition drive to add a judged livestock show contest to the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk athletic competition.

Iowa Athletics Dept has been self supporting without Iowa tax dollars for a very long time. I dont think ISU nor UNI can say the same.

Why should you think Iowa athletic revenue should go to ISU? Really, I will wait for your reply.

The U of I is a lot more important than Clown College. It’s a major AAU research university, home to one of the nation’s largest university teaching hospitals, and the only dental school in Iowa. That last one gives me pause. I do wonder how much respect Clown fans have for dental care, but I digress.

When your kid or grandkid is critically ill, you want them in Iowa City, not Ames. You can always wave toward Ames on the drive over if it makes you feel better.

The University of Iowa contributes far more to the health, research, and well-being of this state. So yes, it should receive more state support.

Hey, sport. Which state university’s athletic department is staring at a projected $147 million deficit through 2031?

Now, sport, which one isn’t operating in the red?

Why should Iowa taxpayers prop up a failing business model?

And Polardini is actually arguing for it. That’s the funny part.

Look, I get the inferiority complex. I understand the desperate need for sports relevance. But Clown U isn’t going to find it by passing the hat to taxpayers. Outside of Story County and Ankeny, hardly anyone knows or cares. Heck, they booked a rapper at Jack Trice who didn’t even know ISU wasn’t the Hawkeyes.

Sure they planned well, and that is why they borrowed $50M and then refinanced to extend the loan…..because they were strong fiscally. LOL! You can just stop while you are behind. Common sense puts me over my “skies”. Sure thing kid.

It was called games cancelled and basically NO fans OR revenue because of covid, dumb ***. You know like most all the other major programs. How were they supposed to plan for that? Kid? Really? I've been a Hawkeye fan since the 60's. You continue to post crap you know nothing about. Be honest now, and stop your nonsense. there's only ONE issue here. Iowa has the money, and ISU does NOT. So YOUR team is gone begging, and your embarrassed because the clones are on the outside looking in, and want your rival to keep you afloat. Too bad, so sad......

That quote makes no sense. Who said that? Jamie Pollard?

Whoever said it, what exactly are they expecting “the state” to do? And as far as I can tell, Iowa State is not exactly struggling to pay for basketball prospects, so I really don’t want to hear it.

Surely, this is some random, message board genius sounding off about sh*t he doesn’t understand, right?
