Hey @LafayetteBear, you asked about how tahoe was last week. It was a zoo, but entertaining.

Man, I haven't seen a sky that beautiful since Tok Alaska in 2000.
There were a couple summers back around 2017-2018 that I went up to Crane Lake in northern Minnesota on a trip with a couple buddies. The cabin was less than a mile from the border. The closest town was about an hour away, and it only had a population of about 400 people. I'll never forget the night sky at night up there. Just stunning.

I was packing to drive back home from Tahoe to Lafayette on July 16. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon. I went out to the dumpster to empty my trash, when a dude (either a renter or a fellow owner I did not recognize) rides up on his bike and asks me "Did you see the bear? He's a big boy, probably about 500 pounds. Light brown in color, and walked down past your neighbor's home just a few minutes ago." (All of the bears in Tahoe, and most of the lower 48, are black bears, which can come in a variety of colors despite their name. Grizzlies are essentially confined to Wyoming, Montana, and perhaps Idaho.)

Another owner then walks up and says this large bear has crawled under my neighbor's back deck to take a nap. She added that he had been spotted on and around the grounds of our development, and had earned the nickname "Cinnamon." I regard this as bad news for Cinnamon, as black bears that lose their innate fear of humans and start hanging around homes during the daylight hours present a serious safety risk, and frequently become the subject of a bear depredation permit, allowing them to be shot.

My understanding is that the Tahoe Basin has the highest density of black bears in the world, and that bears in the Tahoe Basin do not hibernate in winters here unless the snow is very deep. The supply of food from idiots who do not use bear proof garbage containers is simply too plentiful.

The bear pictured here walked about 15 feet behind me while I was packing up. Wouldn’t have known except my dogs went nuts and chased him off. 12lb and 25 lbs mutts

Benem: How did you post your own photos here? I'll readily admit that I am not tech savvy, but I cannot do it. Don't you have to save them from your iPhone to some other location and THEN copy and paste them? Tell me how it's done.

If they are in your “photos” you just hit the picture frame icon in the posting thing here, and then tap the box icon for inserting photos and then tap the photo in your “photos”

1. By the "picture frame icon," do you mean the icon which says "Insert image (Ctrl+P)" when you put the cursor over it?

2. Where is the "box icon for inserting photos?"

3. When you "tap the photo in your "photos," are you talking about photos on your iPhone or must they be photos on your computer?

You can do it either way. These I copied the address from my Google Photos. But you can add them directly from your device.

  1. Yep
  2. the one that says “Drop image (or click here)” after doing step one
  3. whatever device you’re using. I thought you were using an iPhone so that’s what I meant by that. If using a computer you select a photo from whatever folder they are in

Or you could just go to your photo and copy/paste into your post.
