now Dpic, with all due respect, supporting tuition relief, homeownership grants (which is a form of or actual cash) and baby bonds for one race "for repairing past harms" is still reparations. He's not talking about handing them wads of cash.

Holy s h i t!!! The ridiculous Irish argument!!! The Irish were stolen from their homeland and packed in boats, sold as slaves?? Epic fail, bins.now Dpic, with all due respect, supporting tuition relief, homeownership grants (which is a form of or actual cash) and baby bonds for one race "for repairing past harms" is still reparations.
My wife is Irish, and from history, the Irish were denied housing, jobs etc when then came to the US...will they also be entitled to reparations for past harms?

We're comparing people who were shackled and chained in the lower deck of a slave ship to people who voluntarily came here for a better life? Dude...now Dpic, with all due respect, supporting tuition relief, homeownership grants (which is a form of or actual cash) and baby bonds for one race "for repairing past harms" is still reparations.

I believe you missing the point. First of all, if you can show me the living person who was stolen from their homeland, packed in a boat and sold as a slave, then I'd say that person deserves reparation from the people who stole them, packed then in that boat and used them as a slave, not from the normal run of the mill American taxpayer.Holy s h i t!!! The ridiculous Irish argument!!! The Irish were stolen from their homeland and packed in boats, sold as slaves?? Epic fail, bins.
see my post above"It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it."
see my post above...We're comparing people who were shackled and chained in the lower deck of a slave ship to people who voluntarily came here for a better life? Dude...
so I'm going to assume you're for reparations? And only for African Americans? We're comparing people who were shackled and chained in the lower deck of a slave ship to people who voluntarily came here for a better life? Dude...
as I posted, if you can find any person who was shackeled and chained in the lower deck of a slave ship, then give them reparations...by the people that did it, not for the average American taxpayer who might not have come to the US until long after the last slaved arrived in the US and was granted freedom. We're comparing people who were shackled and chained in the lower deck of a slave ship to people who voluntarily came here for a better life? Dude...
No. I’m not missing the point. You’re just a GD moron who made a RIDICULOUS comparison. Now you’re moving the goalposts. Totally a both sides move.I believe you missing the point. First of all, if you can show me the living person who was stolen from their homeland, packed in a boat and sold as a slave, then I'd say that person deserves reparation from the people who stole them, packed then in that boat and used them as a slave, not from the normal run of the mill American taxpayer.
Now if you're talking "repairing past harms" as was pointed out in the OP, then why are we limiting rectifying those past harms to only one group? You don't like Irish, how about the Chinese migrants? according to AI "Yes, Chinese immigrants to the United States faced severe mistreatment, including systemic legal discrimination, violent attacks, and strict immigration bans'. Or how about the native American Indians...our ancestors weren't real good with them either.
US history is full of instances of mistreatment of specific groups. Why would you consider reparations for one and not all? Seems kind of racist to me, and I'm pretty sure your not racist
Republicans are FLAILING trying to take down a far better Christian than they are.
Ned, don't create an argument I wasn't making. Like always, I was addressing the simpleton phrasing in the post that said "James Talarico (D) just ENDORSED a plan to force Texans into paying reparations to black people for slavery." When he was actually talking about practices like redlining that kept blacks from obtaining home loans and systemic inequities in K-12 education, due to under-resourced schools and the racial wealth gap that also left them unprepared for structural admission hurdles that prevented them from getting into college. That's what he was talking about, not reparations for slavery and I think you could make a case that he's right. This was an argument he was making, not me, though I do believe he has a point.so I'm going to assume you're for reparations? And only for African Americans?
Talarico is a much better Christian than a maga Christian and a much better person in general than creepy little screechers like you.LOL.. now Tommy is playing the "I'm a better Christian than you are" card.
F'ing hilarous. You are a sorry mf'er.
