This is like when Jordan played for the Wizards for a couple years post second retirement. A generational global superstar going to play for a random team to end his career.

Jordan was a Carolina kid. He was going home. This seems odd for Lebron to do, but whatever.

The real connection Jordan had with the Wizards, prior to playing for them, was as a minority owner and working in the front office.
Even considering the front office job, its still a random team for a generational global superstar to come out of retirement and actually play for.

I’m with you. I’ve never been more sick of a pro athlete as I am with him. I’m sick of his flopping, I’m sick of him team jumping, I’m at sick of his weak *** taking games off, I’m sick of his opinions on anything being pushed down our throats. Anybody that puts him on the same level as Jordan is totally clueless.

Yeah, he had partial ownership and worked for the Wizards organization. He then hired Collins as head coach, who he had played for in the 80s, and joined the team for a couple seasons.
As for LeBron, yeah, its odd. The competitive spirit is real though, so maybe it really is just that he doesnt feel he is done. The guy still averaged over 20ppg with a bunch of assists and rebounds last season, so he is definitely still able to contribute in a significant way.
But I mean, he will be 42. Go beat up people in Pickleball or whatever while enjoying generational wealth.

Ring chasing - they just added an all NBA guy in the prime of his career, have an elite center if healthy (enormous if), and young stud guards. He fills in at a position of need. He can pick and choose his spots to contribute and facilitate. Seems like they will be a contender next year
Yeah, quite possibly. Like I posted earlier, that starting 5 is above average for sure.

Complaining about competitive athletes chasing rings is always funny to see. I mean, what else would you expect? Any athlete that is good enough to be able to determine their fate should use that power and put themselves in the best position to succeed.
There are many examples of China’s infiltration of our Western capitalistic culture, but you can research that objectively if you wish. That said, I will give you one single point of reference as it pertains to the NBA.
Enes Kanter is a Turkish Muslim who came here on a visa to play basketball and made it to the NBA. He was shocked to discover, as many have, that he was lied to by his government about America, and fell in love with it. When he gained his citizenship, he changed his name to Enes Freedom and became an outspoken critic of government overreach and promoted free speech and human rights, especially when it came to millions stuck back in his home country who feel powerless to resist a nearly totalitarian religious regime.
The more he learned about the humanitarian slaughter that was being perpetrated by the PRC on a little known Muslim minority called the Uyighars, and on also how invested the Chinese are in the NBA, he decided to use his free speech to bring attention to the strange duplicity of their business. He was pretty quickly blackballed and was soon out of the league. There are plenty of podcasts that have interviewed him, and everyone concerned about politics affecting our little oasis of sports should hear it. His story should have been an eye opener years ago for anyone with their head in the sand.

Enes Freedom understood that the superstars in the league would have a much bigger impact on bring attention to basic human rights than he could. He asked many, specifically the biggest star in the league at the time, LeBron James, to stand with him and speak out about these issues. He refused.

Ring chasing at the end of your career seems fine. Lebron can obviously still play and he can probably be much more effective as a role player. In a perfect world, it'd be cool to see starts past their prime embrace being a role player and mentoring the younger players on the team, even if that team wasn't going to be competing for a championship. But obviously that doesn't really make sense when you're not really associated with one team. And there's also an argument for clearing the way for the next generation to be the man without being in your shadow.
But I think it's a little different when you are supposed to be a superstar and go chasing a ring somewhere as a second banana. During Pippen's retirement, he didn't want to go find a better team, he wanted to prove they could win with him being the man. Really to a fault almost, to the extent that he got benched when upset that kukoc was getting the last shot of the game.
Jordan would have never left chicago so that he could get past Detroit. He just wouldn't have had it in him to accept he couldn't get past them. It's why Jordan is still the GOAT. Lebron is great, just in a different way. Besides just being a freak as far as longevity, if there had ever been a situation where for whatever reason Jordan being the focus of the offense was not the best chance for his team winning, I'm not sure he could have accepted a different role. Maybe he could for a game here or there, but I'm not sure in his prime he could have not been the man. Lebron wasn't wired like that and that's not all bad,
