Too bad. You'd have to figure he'd have been enough to make a difference on that 1997 team that lost in the Finals in OT. I suspect he'd have gotten lots of Jared Prickett's minutes.
Trivia, since I mentioned Prickett: Late in regulation in that NCAA championship game in 1997, with the game tightening up, the announcers for some reason said "Jared Prickett is now two points from 1,000 career points at Kentucky." I promise you that happened.
And when the announcer said that, I instantly said to my dad and brothers, "If Prickett can get that last two points Kentucky will win this!" It was just a weird feeling I got: If only Prickett can get Kentucky some kind of garbage basket...
Bottom line: He didn't. And Kentucky didn't. He finished with 998 career points.

I had always heard this story. Just unbelievable some of the guys we had that ended up going straight to the NBA, or some other college. Just at the tail end of Pitino alone: TMac, O’Neal, Dirk and AI. Good Lord.
That’s the most Prickett thing ever right there. I remember that now. He was an absolute KILLER his freshman year, in 1993. Started for an elite Kentucky team as a freshman. He just never was as good at UK for the rest of his time here. His best season was his first. Another missed layup by Prickett.

O'Neal would have been with that 1997 team. T-Mac with the '98 team. Can you imagine?
AI in 96 and Dirk in 98 or 99. WOW! Yeah, 99. Would’ve been incredible.
Adidas stays away and we get T-Mac for '98, Dirk/Mouton for '99.
Sad decision by Pitino and I often wonder if it would have been different it Adidas had left T-Mac alone. Does that '98 UK team go undefeated with McGrady on the roster?
