I know lots of yall hate Lebby but what he’s done this offseason with portal and coaching staff is pretty damn salty.
I say this with genuine curiosity, but what makes you so excited about this portal class?

On paper, it’s #40 nationally and #16 in the conference per 247. Then, when looking at the individuals, I see a lot of kids that were fairly highly rated out of HS, but very few that did much at their last collegiate stop. In other words, a lot more potential than production

Either way, we’ll find out in September

Well, he wasn't too good at head coaching himself (hence why he's now an analyst) so not sure that would help much.
I think it would have been hugely helpful the first year to have somebody that had failed that could guide Lebby on all the things not to do. Had Selmon done a competent job, one of the first things in the interview would have been something along the lines of "if hired, who do you intend to put on your staff that can help you with the transition from being a coordinator to a first time head coach". Certainly a former head coach that had some success would be better, but even a failed head coach could have helped.

A first time AD hired a first time head coach who hired a first time DC…

Only at MSU would our brain trust sign off on this plan

Between this hire and Bartoo talking up Arnett and Phillip Montgomery on Out of Bounds.... Saban talking up KT. I have a full wool coat! Let's go!

On3 has it ranked in the top 20. I love what we added in the DL and secondary. I’m a fan of the young OL we added and the guys who will start and play.

You say that but we old timers remember Jackie’s latter-era coaching staffs with three head coaches as assistant coaches…

Besides too much salt is bad for you… **
Montgomery is the only position coach who was a HC. I guess you can throw Arnett in there as well. The rest being Rhodes and Wells are more of off field assistants.

This is the time of year when folks begin talking themselves out of 5 wins and into 9.

Let a practice report leak where KT threw a couple of tuh-d’s and oh lawd… we comin

Maybe when I was a naive 40 year old, but my experience with losing is now truly vast and deep.

I’m in agreement with the sentiment of folks from Mizzou on Mississippi State football.

I think his record is about what could be expected at UtSt. Pretty much top of the pile in there conf with losses to “named” schools. Even beat those schools occasionally. Tx Tech record wasn‘t to good, but tough teams in that conference.
overall, I think he’s a decent coach and can add valuable insight to the team and staff.

Is he, from the roster standpoint? It seems that our portal class on the OL (biggest need) is pretty weak. Time will tell.
We shall see. We did pick up a few good players. Just not many. OL transfers mostly look like project players who do have some potential, but most not ready to help much in sec this fall.

DJ Chester started two years at LSU. McVay was one of the top OT when he signed with Bama a few years ago. He’s got all the tools. Returning Boone and Steen along with Shumpert-Perkins and adding Freeman and Prudhomme significantly upgraded our OL.

Didn't Chester lose his starting job, with his playing time dropping off significantly afterward?

As for McVay, he hasn't lived up to the hype so far. Has he even made a start?

Our offensive line may look better on paper than last year's, but that's a pretty low bar to clear. It's hard to imagine it being any worse.

Most of the optimism surrounding this group seems to be rooted in projection. I sincerely hope they develop into the unit many expect them to be, but that expectation still requires a considerable amount of faith.

And, based on what we've seen so far, a Lebby-coached team hasn't done much to earn that level of confidence.

Chester was a freshman all SEC at guard/center LSU staff moved him to tackle last fall where he didn’t perform as well.
