Headline on ESPN’s web page in July and no mention of it in here. He even went viral from what I read, and not a peep here

I miss the Liar so bad, sad. Anyway Stein is a beast type dude. Gonna be an interesting football season. He ain’t playing…….reason he went viral is this, they asked him why KY would be good this year, he said, “because of me” lol and meant it…..not in a conceded a-hole way, just said he knows what it takes at this level and can do the job well, yada yada yada

Really think he’s legit

I am also surprised by the lack of discussion about Stein’ comments. It’s probably my age but I didn’t particularly like them. You only boast after you have accomplished something and even then prefer one to act like they have done it before. It’s like court storming after a win as the underdog.

There is a media days thread where it has been discussed......

....that being said, I agree. I miss the Lair. I'm a premium member, and I will say, there's a lot more football talk on House of Blue than basketball honestly. Something to consider.

That being said, I liked being able to get on the free boards too on Rivals and them be seperate. On3 isn't going to do that, and it's simply a matter of time before they kill the free option on y'all.

I get where you're coming from and agree to an extent but Kentucky isn't going to get anywhere being humble. We got some ground to make up and won't do it with a nice guy humble approach. In this case im on board with any kind of confidence he has.

Well, several on here wondered why after the changes earlier this year, that the football board was eliminated and this one stayed. We were told this board would be the board to discuss UK Sports but for some reason, it stayed titled as it currently is - therefore, unless posters know, they think this is the basketball board and not a place to discuss what many of us to believe is an historic beginning to what we have wanted for many years - a championship football team.

And to your point - I am with you that it's about time we had a leader who exudes winning in every facet of his being.

He didn’t boast. If you take those comments as boasting, you probably have soft hands. It’s called confidence.

What did you expect him to say, “I think we can win because Stoops laid a solid foundation for me????”

IF we win big with Stein, it will be him and him only that got us there.

I love his confidence, but Stein just put a lot of pressure on himself. If he goes 4-8 this year, he'll get asked about these remarks...a lot.

You have to be able to embrace the pressure if you put that out there like that. He seems like he is up to the challenge, I want my leader to be fearless. I don't want constant padding for the what ifs, we know it is Kentucky football and we don't have to be warned about a low floor.
Just get after it, and have your team do the same. Show some consitent improvement for 2 years and make a challenge at the playoffs by year 3 or 4 and 90 percent of fans will be behind you.

Most teams like to run it up on cocky coaches, unfortunately. He better tone down, if not abandon, his cockiness during game weeks.

I was a member of HOB for around 15 years. Cancelled it about 6 months ago. There was a time when people who paid the Fee were more respectful and reasonable. Not anymore. The educated will start cussing you out because you don’t agree with them faster than crack addicts will. Rafters has more reasonable discussions than HOB. Sign of the times.

Stein has largely played the PR - talk to recruits - game about as well as he could in the short time at UK. There were a lot of true college football fans who eventually learned Mark Stoops was Kentucky’s HC. I suspect as many already know Stein. He is the best HC to never win a game. If he wins on the field like he does off, UK is about to have fun.

I get it, but Cignetti is 65, not 36, with a 77.3% winning percentage over 13 years as a head coach PRIOR to accepting the Indiana HC position.
He was an assistant under Saban for four (4) years before his first head coaching position.
Although Stein is young and perhaps a bit naive, let's hope he is truly competent.

OK.......and Ive been posting since Tubby was coach. Now that we're done comparing resumes, which isnt remotely germane to the discussion, just be a man and take ownership of starting a bad thread.

So many people in this fan base post these assinine take like you did that ESPN is out to get Kentucky, or that they're ignoring Kentucky.

I don't watch ESPN. I don't care for their woke horsehît. But I do have a brain and a mind for business.

If they've only had one team at the podium thus far at that juncture, it stands to reason that that will be the team they discuss. If Missouri was at the podium at the time, they're going to wait until Drink & Co. are finished before going into depth on Missouri, because, duh.

Also, duh, Oklahoma is one of the biggest names in college football. They're obviously going to spend more time discussing them than they would Missouri, or Kentucky, etc because of ratings. Do you complain when they spend an exorbitant amount on Kentucky during basketball SEC media days? I'm willing to bet the answer is a solid no.

If you understand why they do it for us in basketball, then it stands to reason you should be able to apply that logic to football. Gasp....more people around the country care to hear about Alabama and Tennessee football than they do Kentucky or Arkansas. I know that's a shocking revelation.

In conclusion, maybe stop and think for 2 seconds before rushing on here to post some hair brained hot take that isn't remotely based on reality or logic. Hope this helps in the future. 🍻

the downside is if you don’t back it up, you look like a fool. So it’s all on him, just as it should be with every coach.

Would agree.

See IU. Cig came in acting like he was Nick Saban. Two years later he’s got a title, heisman and first overall pick.

Meek and humble don’t work anymore.

Youth confidence and new ways are in folks. Strap in!

Papaw Brooks was humble. Joker was quiet and nice. Stoops never rocked any boats.

MB, public enemy number 1 on here, same. Pretty humble guy that didn’t talk a bunch or rock boats.

Time to talk and let it fly.

I know what you are saying but we live in a social media world and these clips go viral and a ton of recruits feed off this energy. And its not just recruits, fans that have lost interest or faith in the program will feed off of this as well.

As for Stein "acting like he has been there before" he hasn't. He has nothing to go on but his words and so far he has nailed it.

“You have to be very adaptable as a coach and be able to change on the fly, and that is the most important thing for me, going forward, is I want to play clean. I want to not beat ourselves before we even try to win a game.”

People are saying this is stein's cignetti moment, but this is straight out of the kiffen playbook. Say what you will, but these types of guys usually attract talent and they usually have success. I'm here for it. Play the heel.

Being an excellent offensive coordinator for a team that went to the CFB playoff twice during his tenure is pretty solid, TBH. I still get where you're coming from, but Stein does have a reason to have a little pep in his step.

JMO.

Love a Coach that takes all the pressure off his team. IMO, that's exactly what Coach Stein did with his comments. Putting all the pressure on himself took guts, don't think his team, and recruits didn't notice. Players playing confident, playing to win, playing relaxed knowng your Coach has your back is a confidence builder.

Everyone should take notice that all the Coaches, players, committed players and those being recruited are always commenting on how excited and positives there are around this program presently. My friends, that's leadership from a confident Head Coach. Very few, outside of BBN, will give a second thought about UK's record this year. But if Stein & Co. win 6 games or more the positives will be crazy, and the program will be looked at completely different by fans and media.

That kind of confidence oozes downward on to the whole team. There's a difference between confidence and arrogance. This was 100% confidence and statement of fact. Now go back it up.

2) he’s a young Steve Spurrier and is hired away by a rival SEC school after a couple of seasons.

Stick with basketball. You just limited Steins future to two options.
1. UK is his dream job. He will likely stay here until retirement
2. He may do very well in and out of conference play.

Cig had been a successful head coach for years, albeit at a lower level, and brought a bunch of experienced players with him. Couple that with an easy schedule impossible to replicate in the SEC and hit the lottery with his Heisman QB will provide success. I love what I’ve seen from Stein but am more patient than many and won’t hold my breath for a national championship in year two.
