10-20 year investment? TV technology is like a laptop these days, what you bought yen years ago is trash today.
Fact:
Samsung has never let me down over the last 15 years and I’ve owned several from either upgrading or adding to new spaces. Technology will be the villain in this story in the end.
When it comes to sound though, definitely invest in a sound bar or in-ceiling speakers. Why invest in a great picture if you’re not going to invest in great sound as well? This also means a subwoofer should be included.

Slight thread hack: for those with soundbars that you like, can you recommend one? Has anyone tried out the Amazon Echo (studio or dot max) as a surround sound system?
I've had this theory for a while. I look around, and go for weeks without seeing my neighbors physically. I am like, what are they doing? After reading this thread, and the fact that things like soundbars are apparently required (I don't really even know what is, assuming a strip of small speakers), it confirms that 80% of people's free time is spent watching TV of some sort.
If you have access to special pricing through the exchange or directly through Samsung, 55” S90F (QD-OLED) can be had for $799+tax or $989 no tax. Couple that with a decent sound bar and you’ll be good. Only down side would be if you have a lot of glare, I don’t think that model does good with it.
I’ve also seen good reviews on the TCL QM7K but I think they had issues with buzzing power supply so not sure if you’d want to risk that.
Higher end Sony is the only options I know of that project sound good through the screen but not sure your budget will get you there.

The ROKU operating system is by far the best interface I’ve dealt with. It has apps for everything.
A lot of different manufacturers use it, including some real bargain basement stuff, but there are good sets with it.
There's only 1 of 5 TVs in my house that isn't 10 years old and it's new to replace one that was 11. I have no concerns about what technology version or series I have, nor do my family, friends, or neighbors.
I’ve been kind of a tv snob wanting not the most expensive but a good above average tv. I was watching a Vizio the other day in a golf pro shop and it had a great picture….better than my Sony Bravia. Off angle was washed out but most all are unless it’s an Oled. And a friend of mine bought a 75” $600 TCL from Sam’s that looks great. TV’s have come a long way in the last 10 years.
Look at rtings.com for real reviews and comparisons. They buy their tvs.
And yes TVs have come a long way. Last year I went shopping to upgrade my chair. I was looking for a "theater seating" type. I came across some that Shaq advertises and they had built in speakers. In the demo room it was fantastic. I asked the young fella how does it connect to the tv? He made a simple reply Bluetooth as if any TV has that feature. Now I have a 75 inch Samsung that was top of the line 10 years ago and it does not.

Bought 4 TVs in the last year when I moved. I’ve gotten very partial to insignia fire TVs since I was already a fire stick guy and they integrate perfectly. Have had good luck with those TVs and they are about as cheap as you can get. I think my 75” was $400 as the most expensive of the bunch.
Bought a Vizio while working to watch the baseball postseason and felt like the rights I had to sign away during signing up were insane. I forget what all it required of me, I think Walmart plus and a bunch of other stuff. It was crazy what all had to be input to make it work.

I'vehad Sony, Samsung, & TCL. TCL was the cheapest and the best. Sony burned out fast and Samsung is layed out poorly with its apps unless something has changed. No way in hell I'm paying even close to $1000 for a damn tv, that's like having to buy the newest phone every year, it's stupid! Go drop $400 on a tv and a couple hundred max on a bar
