I am convinced we will win 10 games as well as the team seems to have a lot of PSU and ISU Cylion experience. If we make it to the playoffs and have a chance with an experienced team, it would because a couple guys make the next step and become the true gamebreaker type that opposing defenses need to worry about that we’ve only had once in the last several years (Tyler Warren.). Sowell and Howard are both 4.4 40 guys and could be those guys, and I think Brahmer could be as well. Maybe Peoples too. Becht has to stay healthy. He played through significant injury for a chunk of last season, and that’s where their season went a little sideways for a bit. Reportedly he is completely healed.
Who do they beat out of USC, Michigan, and Washington? Two of those games are on the road in tough places to play. I think Wisky, Minny, and NW could be trap games and will be slugfests. I think the PSU offense will be pretty good and effective, just not explosive, which makes me nervous should they fall behind to good teams. I think it looks more like an old school B1G offense with strong run game, good TEs and move the chains passing game. I hope they are more explosive than I expect. Brahmer and Rapp may be the best TE combo in the country.

I predict we lose to Washington and one of the trap games. Agree on the TE’s, but I just hope a wr breaks out and becomes a true wr threat.

Yup, think we win both. I think USC may be better than Michigan.
Interesting. Bold prediction. I think both are better than Washington, but that cross country travel to play in Husky Stadium is a big challenge. B1G teams have not fared well traveling across country since the west coast teams joined.

My "outsider" opinion is as follows:

1. TE -- a popular choice with Brahmer, Rap, Burkle, and Alexander

2. RB -- my San Antonio, TX bias is showing here, but I think Peoples is going to be a great RB for Penn State. Martin is very good and Hanson might be just as good as Martin (I admit that I have seen no ISU games). Add a speedster like Wallace ...

3. DE -- Ezeogu seems poised to be a dominant force; if another Texas boy, Granville, is healthy and Kemajou improves as expected, I see no reason why this position will be anything but a strength.

4. Secondary -- I'm neither smart enough nor informed enough to know who actually ends up playing CB or S. But whoever the staff throws on the field will be fast and aggressive with considerable experience.

It is not rb.

Rb is one injury away from being a problem.

DE is loaded with question marks backed up by bigger question marks.

I think it takes both. You need talented athletic guys and solid knowledge from an OL coach. OL is an area where I am pretty optimistic. They have a good mix of highly recruited, talented guys (Goodman and Cousins) to go along with some seasoned, experienced college level guys (Donkoh, Riker, Rulli, Buhr)and some younger high ceiling guys (Alicene, Kuol, Onoh, Sexton, Harbour). If they gel early, this has the potential to be a pretty good OL with some depth. If Donkoh can stay healthy, he may be a pretty high draft pick next spring.

I’m looking forward to an offense that has an identity and I think that identity will start with the OL and run game. If they can gel early and set the run game successfully, the offense should be effective.
I respect your opinion and want it to become fact.

My thoughts are I think this will be a classic situation where we maul the out of conference guys, get all excited then reality hits when we can’t muster muster any run game consistency against the formidable BIg10 opponents.

Teams will continue to load up against the run and we typically lack an explosive pass game to make them pay due to lack of playmakers. Our athletes on the outside will be out “athletic-ed” by the opponents DBs. Thats how you beat PSU the last 15 years. We couldn’t get the job done when we had Barkley and there isn’t an athlete near his zipcode on this team.

3rd and 2 or less continues to be a problem, especially without the Fatman.

RB has Hansen, Peoples, Martin, & Wallace. No Saquon in the bunch but that seems like reasonable depth.

DE has Granville, Kemajou, Ezeogu, and Arrington. We don't know how healthy Granville will be but that sounds like 4 respectable options. Burnett was a low 4* recruit and had an offer from Michigan. I doubt he'll be ready but who knows.

I don't expect much of a contribution from Ford as a true freshman.

Granville & Kemajou should be good. I don't know why everybody is forgetting about Arrington.
Not expecting major contribution from Ford, but let's see what he shows in OOC and perhaps he works himself into the rotation (spot duty) as the season progresses. Remember, no more redshirts so I expect any Freshman who show some useful traits in OOC are going to be utilized the rest of the season as depth pieces.

I am not yet convinced about 10 wins. I want to see if they dominate the three OOC teams and are able to beat Wisconsin and NW by 10-14 points; then I will have some confidence.

Hansen is a proven commodity. After that...People's dropped to #4 at Ohio State by the end of last season. Martin has 1 game under his belt. The bowl was essentially a scrimmage of what was left after massive opt outs. The non conference games must result in someone establishing some wiggle. Otherwise it could be possession type passing and 3 yards and a cloud of dust running game. Flip a coin...optimism or pessimism. Easy to jump the line.

Tons of question marks in your depth chart. Martin had 20 carries last year. Wallace had 6 carries. You are also planning on zero injuries in a sport with tons of injuries.

Aarrington should not even be on the depth chart. If his name was smith you would not even list him. Granville had one tackle in two years. Granville is question mark. He might be good. No idea if he can stay healthy. Ezeohu had 8 tackles last year.

Way too early to project RB and DE as a strength. It is CB and TE. After that it is a guess. OL has talent in paper. Who knows if they mesh and have a good scheme.

It's been a long time since I've been as excited as I am for an opening game.

Was going over a projected depth chart today and my oh my there are so many new names that I know so little about it has me to lose my frame of reference.

Ezeogu was rated # 898 and #92 edge. He's a redshirt senior so he would have to be a very late bloomer.
At this point I would not look at his HS rankings but believe more on the inside info from Donahue. It could be more hype than substance but he had a strong, positive take on Ezeogu.

A front page article indicates the writer believes there are FOUR PSU position groups set for future success. Which ones do you believe are set for continued success?
My take for success beyond 2026:
-Cornerback
-TE
-My surprise pick for 2027 & beyond: DE (Kemanjou, Granville, Ford, Guertin)

Not sure about a 4th position group.

What say you?
OL.

I'm not claiming that DE and RB will be top 5 in the BiG. I'm just responding to the claim that we're 1 injury away from disaster at those positions. I think the 1 injury away from disaster concern is better reserved for QB, LB, OL, and DT.

My opinion about Arrington isn't because of his name. It's based on his 4* 94 rating and offers from teams like Michigan, Tennessee, and Washington. Martin also had a 4* 94 rating with offers from schools like Florida State, Miami, and Michigan. Of course both players have to prove it on the field. Remember we're looking at both of them to provide depth, not as starters.

I'm not looking at Ezeogu based on his HS rankings. I'm looking at him based in his transfer portal rankings (301 overall, 34 DL, 3* 88). He had 25 tackles (8 solo) and 1 sack last year.

I hope Donahue is right but there's nothing in his history that suggests he'll be a standout performer. Of course we're looking for him to be a backup player behind Granville and Kemajou and he might do well in that role.

Some positions PSU might be in trouble without any injuries. Some of the starters are unknown commodities backed up by other unknown commodities. At DE it is kemajou and all unproven players.

Psu fans went from complaining about paying unproven high school players to thinking the same unproven players are a strength.

If a player is good/great in year 1, it makes sense to project him to be great in year 2. That player already played at a high level. Psu depth chart has players who did not produce much last year. A player like Aarrington might be great at some point. The question is WHEN. We don't know if he will be good this year because there is no track record yet.

Kemajou had a 4* 94 recruiting ranking coming out of high school and he flashed in limited PT last year. Granville had a 4* 91 recruiting ranking with an impressive offer list (USC, A&M, Oklahoma, Florida). IIRC he was expected to be a starter before his injury.

You're correct that neither of them are "PROVEN". I don't expect either of them to be 1st or 2nd team all BiG but I'm still optimistic about their chances to be good.

I believe he played in a three man front defense last year, not sure what his responsibilities were. Perhaps they are different in Lynn's 4-man front and he has responded to the change?
