That lines up with my observations. Rhule doesn’t out coach anybody with in-game adjustments and decisions. It’s a strong enough trend that it’s not just bad luck. It’s part of the identity of a Rhule-led team.

Every coach has weaknesses. Not a big deal. The problem with our coach's downside is that his #1 weakness is his lack of self-awareness. Has he EVER admitted or acknowledged his awful in-game coaching that we all see and the data supports - or has he even discussed the need for improvement?

That's a weakness that feels impossible to overcome.

Funny you asked this question. I know its not specific to in-game coaching, but still....

I also think his answers are super vague & don't make much sense. "Sometimes I did too much and other times I didn't do enough."

But every coach who couldn't get the job done (Pelini, Frost and now Rhule) started to annoy me no matter what they said so it really doesn't matter if Rhule has the perfect response. Idgaf, just go out and win.

As the Freshman B team RB coach ( or something similar)..........most of y'all need to stop there when comparing yourselves to a P5 head football coach. Regardless to the relative success or failures of Matt Rhule's time at Nebraska, not a one of you have any sort of familiarity or can at all relate to his position.

This isn't a defense of Rhule, he has is weaknesses no doubt, but good God the number of guys who don't coach at all or coach on a low level, that want to compare their experiences to a P5 head coach is quite comical.

Now that I think about it. Either Joel Klatt or one of his guests on his podcast said as much a couple of years ago. As far as I'm concerned, I think college football works better when the good teams have good records. Seems crazy for those two leagues to cut the weaker teams out of their conference and just beat up on each other. Teams could have good seasons and finish .500. I also think that it would be stupid to have a Power 2 format and still have a 16 team playoff. But I have no doubt that whatever pads everyone's bank account the most is what will be done.
There is A LOT of money lost when Alabama plays Sisters of Christ...attendance is bad, viewership is bad. These kids and coaches are getting paid a lot of money...they should not be subsidizing poor programs so they can get an easy wins, especially in a sport where there are only 12-14 games a year. You can't have 25% of the schedule be non-competitive. Or at least that isn't good business. College football fans are smart enough to know that a 9 Mike Reilly team wasn't very good...the soft schedule didn't really matter because we got boat-raced against good teams. In fact I think the soft schedules for Bo, Mike and last year retard changes and growth because it gives the appearance that things can get worse. If we played a full big 10 schedule Matt wouldn't have a single winning season and probably would be dumped by now.

The criticism for coaches comes from their insane compensation. Being a head coach now is no more difficult than 1995 but Rhule is being paid 10 million because Nebraska had a great coach 30 years ago. Rhule has not brought 25 million in value to the university...he is basically coaching at a replacement level...meaning a person could make 10% of what he is making and still have similar success. He brings no value to the university, in fact the program has lost prestige and value since he has been here. That is the problem. Matt Rhule probably could not roof a house or fix plumbing or an AC, but he makes 1000x more than those people who actually provide a useful service and not just suck value while making millions.

Who should be the one to replace Rhule? And what will it cost to get him?

Rhule is paid what he is paid because that is the market. If you don't think the grind of being a head coach in today's world isn't more difficult than 1995 than you are delusional. In 1995, Osborne's had a coaches show, a couple of pressers, recruiting and he coached football. There was no NIL, no revenue sharing, no 24 hour sports cycle. His most difficult job was probably watching the police blotter to make sure he didn't have to make a phone call to get the arrest taken care of and the charges dropped. Completely different world.

Secondly, how much money a coach makes in 2026 as compared to roofers, plumbers or HVAC techs is irrelevant. Most FBS coaches make 1000 times more than those people and not all of them are winning titles and meeting expectations fans have set.

Lastly, I would say in comparison to the 2 coaches that came before him, Rhule has raised the value of the program. You and others just don't like the pace at which it is happening. Which is fine, but it doesn't make what you wrote any more truthful or accurate.

You're losing me here. Teams have to play home games for revenue. Can't have teams playing a "full big 10 schedule" with everyone playing 7 or 8 home games. That's the main reason these teams get easier non-conference schedules. And I've been to a lot of home football games. Watch the crowd. Beating Houston Christian is more fun than losing to Iowa or getting trampled by Michigan. Winning is more fun. And I don't think we have to lose almost every game in order to realize that we're not a very good team. Just watching us try to block Michigan was evidence enough.

Only the extension is keeping the tabloids from saying that MAtt is on the Hot Seat

He should be with this being written about him for 2026:
Per ESPN
* Number of wins: 6.7
* Number of losses: 5.3
* Win-out chance: 0.0%
* Chance of reaching six wins: 74.5%
* Chance of winning the Big Ten: 0.7%
* Chance of making the College Football Playoff: 7.3%
* Chance of making the national championship game: 0.4%
* Chance of winning the national championship: 0.1%

Well school schedule doesn't really matter any more since the players aren't students...they are paid employees. So I think you could get to 13-14 games and get your full home schedule with no "pay to win" opponents. There is nothing worse for a program than to play a team who is encouraged to lose...since they get 500k to 1 million to play at NU and beating NU might encourage not scheduling them any more. And yes, we need to lose every game if need be since we are paying away our final round of decent donations to field a bad team. Maybe this is the problem with NU. People thinking that we don't need a competitive environment and instead just a delusion, or roleplaying college football. We kind of act like a college football team when we play Buffalo or Rutgers or Maryland.

Once again, showing that you are in fact worried that NU will become great again, while iowa just hopes to hit that magical 8th win.

So again, the last meaningful game that iowa played in? Sir, we are waiting for your answer.

I'm not a fan of Rhule (hoping he can change my mind) but this argument you made is silly. We have not lost prestige and value since the glory days of Scott Frost. We were in the TOILET with Frost and mocked by many. We have made 2 Bowls in a row and we are now more in the "forgotten" category by pundits and non-NU fans than ridiculed as we were under Scott Fraud. I'm not here to defend Rhule, but your slam of him is off base. There are many weaknesses worth mentioning but you missed.

The Plummer and roofing argument is also silly. How do you think compensation should work in society - the public should vote on who makes the most money between a coach, a plummer and a roofer?

You are really off the rocker tonight. No college coach including the ones that win the NC would want that type of Schedule. And I don’t care if they get paid it’s still not the NFL . The majority of the teams wouldn’t hold up physically to a schedule like this .

You sound soft. These kids are getting millions, they have hundreds of millions invested into their physical wellness. Put a good product on the field week after week. If you expect people to pay thousands for season tickets we should get more than a win against Ohio and North Dakota...two teams are aren't even in the same playing field. We have so few victories against good teams that our fans are just slavering for big wins against inferior programs. And I don't care what millionaire coaches want...they should do what is best for fans.

Anyone on this board that thinks Matt Kenneth Rhule will turn this program around is an idiot. He is a crappy coach, a fraud, and the Osborne clowns are buying into it. Every clown from the top down should be canned and the educated ones know this. Until this happens, this program will continue to be crap, like it has been for 25 years. Learn some football and quit hoping and being a rah rah Husker Homer. Those days are over. I called it when they hired the clown and until I am proven wrong--And I haven't been for over 10 years--Kiss my ***. I am drunk and I am back.

I'm praying it is. Matt's never going to take us any higher than we are right now.
Correct. Rhule is our iowa coach.

7 wins/8 wins, no meaningful games...you do that fir 5+ years and the fans start to accept that as your ceiling and you end up with a coach that is 30 years into a career, averaging #7.44 wins a season.

No...that is not what we want. We as fans want more.

with what Indiana has done, it shows you what a good coach with nil money can go out and get you.

Matt with nil money and we are not even making the playoffs. Not even sniffing it.

I am not high on Rhule and have stated so many times, but I think it’s best to not fret about it too much right now. He will be the coach for the upcoming 2026 season, which I would prefer to be successful. At the moment we are undefeated, and a 5-0 start is reasonably possible. Assuming we don’t lose any non-con games, nothing can really change my perception until B1G play starts.
