Bond to Haddix for 6. It don’t get no better than that.

I started following and actually understanding State football during the Croom years so this is the equivalent for me

I noticed Chris McNeil, Richard Burch, & David Stewart blocking. It is hard to believe but we actually had 3 legit SEC OL then.

I had forgotten all about Freddie Million's little brother making a big block downfield!

I was pretty active in the program when we signed Bond . Went to fall practice his freshman year . On one play Bond ran a sweep and made it to the edge where he got in a foot race down the sideline with a good defensive back(who's name I can't remember) . In spite of the coaches blowing the play dead the two decided to see who was fastest. Bond out ran the guy by 10 yards . He could flat out fly when he got there but 4 years of option football beatings slowed him down a lot .

This is the dictionary entry example of the triple option. Work of art.

Michael Haddix was the reason I was a running back growing up.

I was there and I've never seen more big plays by us in one game. Really tough loss.

Yeah, that was a big, big game at the time. In those days it was very rare for State to be on national tv. And it was rare to play a big game in Starkville at the 32,000 seat stadium.

Unfortunately, as competitive as we were against a great team, this 5-6 season was the start of a real tough stretch that ultimately led to Jackie Sherrill.

Here’s a condensed version of the full game if interested…

John Bond lives in my neighborhood and occasionally I'll see him when I'm heading out on a run and I'll get a wave. Those are good runs.
