Golf Channel said his agent just said that he will decide in the morning on whether he will continue to play or not.
You take the risk hitting the ball there & then walking around. Whether he did or not is not the point.

I like Bryson and hope he makes a surge this weekend, but it did like he purposely stepped on the bushes behind his ball to allow for a free backswing. If there are videos showing other guys doing that this weekend then he has a reason to be pissed, not sure if he's being singled out of if he was just being a bit careless.
I think he’s going to come out super motivated. He’s playing great.
Brandell Chamblee is such a douche. I don’t care what you do in fescue it doesn’t help. He obviously just checking his stance there. Such a stupid rule. They finally got rid of a couple really dumb rules recently and this one is another. He’s not trying to hit the ball backwards. I guarantee he will hit that fescue coming back anyway.

Would they make the same call on Rory??? You know they wouldn’t. So it is ok for fans to trample down the heather which helps a players lie but if a golfer is walking around in the heather he gets penalized. How many times do you see players move rocks and twigs? How is that any different?? There was no intention to make his shot easier by his actions.
Rory got a very similar 2 stroke penalty in 2024. Lots of golf rules are confusing and stupid.
Bryson is still only 3 back from Herbert who will likely fall apart. And only 1 behind Cam Young and Gerard. With the way his able to cut corners on this course I think he still can get the job done.

Exactly, they play off spots trampled down all day by fans. He’s a pro, they really don’t need to cheat to play well. They get out of most spots mortals can only dream of. All he can do is accept it and move on.
Chamblee has been on a crusade against Bryson prior to this anyway.

Under the rules it absolutely is. The argument is that whether it was intentional or not, that should be a criteria. Let me pose this to you. Every tournament there are 120+ pros out there playing. Only the top of the leaderboard and a few select pros get on TV. How many guys play shots like this every tourney that are against the rules in one way or another that nobody sees or thinks twice about. I remember when people would call in rules violations for dumb stuff too. I’m glad they stopped that.

Even when it’s within the rules sometimes it’s just dumb. Tiger had 20 spectators move a 2,000 lb boulder out of his way. It was legal but dumb.
Yep, I watched Rahm with that sequence and how the cast described how the R&A ruled on such behavior and I thought to myself, dang, you are 3 under and you throw a club on a shot where you could have gotten up and down from.
I did see the BD clips after the fact and although his preshot routine looked innocent enough, those of us golfers know that cameras are always watching AND, you simply cannot step on high grass to improve your swing path.
The thing that bothers me the most is the jackass Chamblee and the other leprechaun (not McGinley) they had on there just bad mouthing BD because he would not give any quotes while leaving it up in the air if he would play tomorrow.
The one guy said "he can't hold the R&A hostage by not letting them know if he is going to play". Come on, this is big time golf so there is constant communication so they are just two petty middle schoolers picking at BD.
My opinion - yes, he violated the rule and should have been assessed but so did Rahm. That said, I hope BD comes out tomorrow and lights that effing course up.

He’s so dramatic, he did everything but take a weed whacker too it! Like come on, the dude took two steps and a look behind the ball to check his line.
He should get over it. It has nothing to do with him and the league is about to fold anyway. Everybody and their mom would have left for a guaranteed 200M dollars and 40m dollar tournaments. Also only playing 3 rounds and a team format with friends on tour.

Whatever. I like his residual anger over actions that sanitize and normalize Saudi behavior. And no, not all of them left for LIV. If it was up to me, the LIV guys would never be welcome back.
I agree with the Saudi stuff, but the players have no control over that. Make no mistake the US Government is as shady and dirty as anyone. We don’t hold our athletes to that same standard for things they don’t control even though they represent us. We use sports the same way with our pro leagues. We have more moral fiber and lawful behavior than they do, but it’s hypocritical on our behalf I think. Same at those players have no control over what the Saudi’s regime does. I know we don’t fund our players the same way, but a lot of these owners have gotten the money to buy teams from some shady government stuff/contracts/who they know over the years. I know not all the big players left and they deserve props for that, but at the end of the day it’s a job to them. You have to remember only a handful of the top guys got these offers and the rest of them made way more money than they would grinding on tour.

I think the video most saw was the one I did where he had “surveyed” his shot and was walking back to the ball and his left foot stepped on the fescue. I thought you had to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
And then, watching coverage this morning, I saw where he first arrived at the ball from the tee. He stands behind the ball and stomps on the fescue two or three times. Changed my mind.
