is a great song. It's also my theme song for the rest of the workday and tomorrow, and on Wednesday I'm doing exactly that. Couple of days in San Fran, then headed southbound...couple of days on Monterey before heading towards LA.

First time out there, other than snow-skiing Tahoe 20ish years ago.

Take the 101 South, not I5.
Spend little time in LA, but continue on down to San Diego instead.

Not really spending much time in LA, but flying out of there on the way home. Basic plan is this:
*Fly in to SF & spending a couple of nights there
*Going from there to Monterey Peninsula & spending a couple of nights in Pacific Grove
*Drive from PG to Santa Barbara & spending a couple of nights there
*Drive from there to Santa Monica, spend one night there & fly out next day

I know it will be way slower, but we'll probably drive along the coast mostly

So after a day and a half....
The weather has been fantastic.
The scenery is incredibly beautiful.
I have been shocked at the lack of homeless encampment- I haven't even seen one pile of sheet on a sidewalk.
I had a blast watching the World Cup game on the pier yesterday with a huge crowd that qas evenly mixed between Argentinian fans who were very quiet for two hours but very rowdy for 15 minutes, and Brits who were just the opposite.

Been a great trip so far.

I am sorry that I missed this thread! I would have offered to buy you a pint (or a tequila) at Ye Olde King’s Head next to the pier with all the sad English fans. It’s a weird week to be in California. The oddly hot and humid weather is a lot more Floridian than typical, but we have been having spectacular sunsets.

I am actually going to be in Monterrey this weekend for the 116th annual California Rodeo at Salinas, also planning to drive PCH and then hop over to the 9 and skyline blvd for a bit of “spirited” driving through the Redwoods.

It's hot and humid in LA? I know it gets warmer in LA than the LBC but wow. It was 77 and no humidity here yesterday.
It was a weird start to the week up here in the Sac area. Cloudy with 'high humidity' for the region. Humidity got up in the high 30s!
With temps near 100 the humidity feels extra gross.

Well, if you live in the Sacramento area, you are that much closer to Tahoe. I was up there for the last couple of weeks, and drove back to Lafayette yesterday. They were doing roadwork on the eastbound side of Interstate 80, so that eastbound traffic was pretty backed up in spots. Westbound was at the limit. The weather in Tahoe has been great lately. The Lake was glass on Tuesday, when we boated down to The Grove, which I still refer to as The Beacon.

I will be curious to read how it goes. I have been hearing that the crowds around Tahoe and Truckee have been intense this year.

We are planning a trip to Paso Robles for December and then the Lost Coast for January.

Hot? Humid? I've lived my whole life in the sauna that is central FL. I wore a damn jacket most of the time I was in San Fran, and I will have it on again this evening on the Monterey Peninsula.
I did go with shorts and a long sleeve t-shirt this afternoon, but got chilly when in the shade or in the wind.

There was a pretty big invasion of teens at the public beaches on Tahoe's north shore. Probably due to the weather. It was 100 all over the country, but low 80's high 70's in the Tahoe Basin.

The teens rolled in in force, and a few problems ensued. Lots of trash being strewn, underage drinking, and public urination. The local cops had to come in and shut down the public beaches at Skylandia Beach and Kings Beach.

I love the ocean side of San Francisco and Marin in the summer. Best weather on the continent in July and August.

I hope that you are able to go to Carmel while you are in Monterrey. If you have a free cocktail hour, Bud’s is a fun spot.

Yeah, that's why I put question marks in there, because SoCal is definitely not hot and humid (especially compared to Florida).

I graduated from high school in Santa Barbara, and it is not a place for me to live. However, there are nice places to visit for several days. I would recommend the wharf and the adjoining Beach. Haven't been there in 3 or 4 years but almost certainly State Street is a very good place to browse and find local eateries. The carpinteria State Beach is very nice and a couple miles down the road there is Rincon point which is one of the top 10 surfing spots in the world. (Directly on the Santa Barbara county/Ventura county line on 101) It is directly adjacent to 101 and you may want to just stop and park there and take some pictures for 20 or 30 minutes because in the summer the surf doesn't break at Rincon. There is also downtown Montecito, where many of the truly wealthy people live, such as Oprah and Meghan Markle. Not super special, but reasonably nice, and maybe a place that you can tell other people that you visited.

Also, The Padaro Beach grill is off of the padaro exit on 101 just before you get into carpinteria. My guess is the food is average, but the view of the ocean is really good and you're eating right on the beach.

Watch out for the hobos and drink Pliny.
Pliny is good, but Russian River makes a lot of other good beers, as well. The two products that I will grant as being better in Northern California relative to Southern California are beer and sourdough bread.

Get down to Hillcrest in SD tonight!

The entire month of June isn't enough to satiate these deviants!

I picked up a sixer of Monkey Pox just going to Trader Joe's earlier.
