I was thinking the exact same starting roster. Gil is an elite rim protector with Ndefo adding more muscle and rebounding. Dawes to stretch the floor with Whiteheads playmaking.

That year we missed out on seeing the Gil and Powell team in the dance still hurts me. That team was equipped for a deep tournament run before they cancelled everything. Our one year we had elite size, rim protection and shot making. Of course we would get screwed on that one year.
For posters that have watched TBT in past, how does this roster look?
Also, are these teams usually younger, older or a mix? We seem to be a mix, Whitehad and Gill probably both over 30, figure Cale, Nelson and Ndefo late 20s, Dawes & Brodie mid 20s, and I have no idea of age of non SHU guys. Just wondering if better to be older or younger?

Hot take, Ryan dropped the ball with this one. Shouldn’t have announced players until they were 100% in. (Gordon, Carrington, Desi)
Who do you think is best player on the team ? Cale? i think he plays in the highest level overseas of all the players
Given his seeming over-focus on SHU, my guess is not that much hoops-wise. Definitely some Trip McNeeley stuff going on there.
btw anyone who is on the fence this tourney is 1000% worth watching. I’ve seen some in the past and the games can be pretty competitive. Plus now you have some of our former favorite players. No brainer in the dead of summer.

This is literally a glorified pick up game with TV cameras . Doesn’t Gill work a regular job for several years now? Dawes was extremely inconsistent even when he played every day. You guys act like they’ve been practicing basketball every day. They’re going to set one screen and shoot a jumper.

Of course this is incredibly difficult. Anyone who read the Trove's 2 part Q&A with Ryan knows this was years in the making. Dealing with players, coaches, agents, pro leagues who have first rights on players, players coming back from a season long commitment overseas and are exhausted as Carrington is just coming home from Europe and begging off because his body needs to recuperate.
Then you have injuries. Desi was signed up to play but blew his knee out and now won't play until next year.
Then there is the out of pocket cost that Ryan is paying to fly players into NJ, feed and house them and then transport them to Syracuse and beyond if the team advances.
Whitehead or not this doesn't get done without Ryan getting involved. That's why I am pushing so hard to have us help defray the expenses Ryan is facing.

Games to be Played at Seton Hall’s Walsh Gymnasium and OnCenter War Memorial in Syracuse
The Basketball Tournament (TBT) unveiled a new format and winner-take-all $2 million prize, headlined by a first-round best-of-three series between Hall In (Seton Hall) and Boeheim’s Army (Syracuse).
TBT 2026 will feature 16 teams, with eight alumni teams and eight non-alumni teams competing on two separate sides of the bracket. TBT’s first round will now be a best-of-three series before returning to the single-elimination format for future rounds. Just five wins are needed to capture TBT’s $2 million prize.
Isaiah Whitehead’s Hall In will take on Buddy Boeheim’s Boeheim’s Army July 21-24, with games being played in both South Orange and Syracuse. The old BIG EAST rivals will be meeting for the first time in TBT’s 13-year history.
“We’re incredibly thankful that TBT selected Seton Hall for this exciting matchup,” said Isaiah Whitehead. “In honor of the 10-year anniversary of our 2016 BIG EAST championship team, we’re looking to reunite the core of that team with this Hall In roster. I’m excited to see our fan base pack Walsh Gymnaiusm this summer to support us as we look to get past Syracuse and win this $2 million prize.”
“I really enjoyed my first TBT experience last year and was eager to be a part of it again,” said Buddy Boeheim. “We’re looking forward to a tough series against a really good Seton Hall team. This is an exciting time for Syracuse basketball, and bringing a TBT championship back to Syracuse would be a perfect way to kick off this new era.”
“We love the idea of rekindling this old school BIG EAST matchup,” said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. “This Seton Hall team reminds us a lot of the Buffalo alumni team that won TBT three years ago – tough, talented, and beloved. We think this will be an incredible summer matchup in front of two raucous fanbases for $2,000,000.”
As part of the best-of-three series, both teams will have a chance to host at least one home game. The first game of the series will take place at Seton Hall’s Walsh Gymnasium Tuesday, July 21, at 7 pm ET, and will be televised live on FS1. Game two will be played at Upstate Medical Arena at The Oncenter War Memorial in Syracuse Thursday, July 23, at 7 pm ET and will be televised live on FS2.
Game three (if necessary) will be played in Syracuse on Friday, July 24, at 7 pm ET and will be televised live on FS2. Tickets are available now at TBTHoops.com.
The winner of the Syracuse-Seton Hall series will face the winner of the Kentucky-Louisville series in a single-game second round Sunday, July 26 at 2 pm ET on FOX.
The other Alumni Bracket matchups include Kansas-Kansas State and Wichita State-New Mexico. The Alumni Bracket Championship will be played Wednesday, July 29 at 7 pm ET on FS1.
TBT’s eight non-alumni teams will compete in the Las Vegas Bracket, a single-location event to be played entirely at the M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas from July 22-30. Team slots in the Las Vegas Bracket are available to the public at a variable entry fee ranging from $125,000-250,000.
The winner of the Las Vegas Bracket will play the winner of the Alumni Bracket on Sunday, Aug. 2 on FOX at the Alumni Bracket champion’s home court.
TBT’s new format for 2026 comes after a record-setting tournament in 2025. Over 500,000 viewers tuned into FOX as the AfterShocks (Wichita State) defeated Eberlein Drive, in a raucous championship held on Wichita State’s campus. TBT 2025 also set a championship game attendance record, as 9,029 fans packed Koch Arena. Despite students not being in session, it was Wichita State’s biggest crowd for a basketball game in over three years.
TBT drew 85,395 fans in attendance last summer, surpassing its own record in 2024. Since 2022, TBT has grown its annual attendance by over 136%.

I’ll give Myles Cale the benefit of the doubt because he loves SHU and spent 5 years playing here. It’s unfortunate we had so many injuries with Desi and Angel. I hope that if we make a little run and players have a positive experience more guys will commit next year

Boeheim’s Army, which is Syracuse alumni, has a star-studded group which is heavily favored on Tuesday night at Walsh Gymnasium at Seton Hall in Jersey City, New Jersey at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim are on the Syracuse team, as are Eric Devendorf, Elijah Hughes, Chris McCullough, Cole Swider, and Tyson Walker, as well as former NBA Draft lottery pick, Wes Johnson. Syracuse is 27-10 all-time in this tournament. That includes a run to the $1 million purse in the 2021 championship.
Meanwhile, Seton Hall is a relative newbie in this event. It is just 1-1 in two games, playing in the previous format. This is a team with some talent, like Pirates alumni Darnell Brodie, Myles Cale, Al-Amir Dawes, Romaro Gill, KC Ndefo, and Ant Nelson look to make some waves. The team will likely go only as far as Isaiah Whitehead can take it. He last played overseas in Poland with King Szczecin.
The ‘Cuse side is favored in this matchup because of its guard play, and expected sharpshooting. The Hall has plenty of size inside, as Gill stands 7-foot-2, and he is likely to be a huge obstacle for Syracuse trying to score along the interior.
The best play in this matchup is going low in Game 1, and we’ll take Hall In catching more than three buckets, since it is playing on its home court at Walsh Gym.

Gill has played pro ball every year since Seton Hall. Played in the G-league, then in New Zealand and the last 3 years in Spain. He also recently played for the Jamaican National Team.
