So, which is it? Is your concern that she's too young or too old? Unless she escaped from the boarding school or senior center it doesn't really matter this evening.

It's pretty easy to figure out if you start talking about music. If you can't come to a conclusion based on her tastes, then you have to get a little more strategic. You can probably nail it down if you ask what her first live concert was, then slip in the "what year" question in case she says The Stones. Just hope she wasn't in the crowd at the Ed Sullivan Show.

If you're at a bar and you can't reasonably tell from her appearance whether she's outside your acceptable range, it's fair to assume she's good to go.
The only caveat to that is that it's definitely harder to tell the older I get. Very often these days early 20's can look late 20's or even early 30's... which is not always a problem... until one of them says "hey, aren't you _______'s dad??"
