He was on the yellow already and broke a known rule on purpose...so his selfishness and lack of awareness cost his team a player. He made the decision to dive. More sports should do it IMO. Do it in football as well, second personal foul,,,ejected and you lose a man on that side of the ball. Basketball, second personal...ejection and down a man. Baseball, intentionally beam someone, throw hands, and lose an outfielder. I'm not sure why you think your opinion is going to sway anyone, but it has for me....more sports should be doing this. Bad calls will happen in all sports, but he broke a known rule where a card was a very real outcome. We call that FAFO.
Well, you and I are on the opposite sides of this discussion and that is fine. Hey, maybe I will start watching more Premier League games.

This one surprised me, I thought France was going to win it all. That boneheaded play by the France (defender?) in their penalty area to blindly kick the attacker and get a yellow card swung the game. France never seemed to get their mojo after that.

Spain is the favorite to win it now. I think they are better than England and Argentina.

Spain did an amazing job of shutting down France’s attack. I don’t know that I have seen a team be more disciplined defensively in recent years than Spain. With that said, Spain has been France’s kryptonite. It is quite possible that Argentina or England will have more success against Spain than France did, but neither team would have had much of a chance against France.

Spain's gameplan remains the same. They are incredibly patient on the offense and relentless on defense. Like you though, I thought France could solve Spain's defense with the scorers they had. Spain absolutely dominated that game.

I’ve read somewhere that there is approximately a 4:1 ratio of Argentine to English fans in Atlanta today.

I am pulling for Three Lions to win but you have to admire what Messi has accomplished at 39 years old at the highest level in the sport.
I’m okay with Spain winning but would have been okay with France winning. I’m very very much rooting for England but you won’t catch me trying to figure out why, I go with the flow.

Either Messi is really good or everyone else for Argentina really sucks. Both?
He's really good. The Argentinians have gambled thus far on setting Messi up to work to get in scoring position. He has also been an effective playmaker. Be interesting to see how England counters today. Be aggressive offensively and make Messi work harder defensively to lessen his energy?

The next World Cup is 2030, hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. Lovely, the matches will take place in the morning and afternoon here in the United States, ET. As soon as this 2026 World Cup is over, I’ll set up a “I Hate Soccer, World Cup 2030 Version” thread!
