No one is against it... He will have to live with it going forward. EVERY... everyone of us revisits our "glory days" and some have great regrets that travel with us as heavy luggage. Hope he's actually thought this through because opportunities only come so often. Many Hall of Famers played every sport while growing up and still reached the top...
I picture you sitting in a recliner in a dark room sipping a whiskey clutching your letterman jacket that no longer fits recounting every miniscule detail of that one game that you think gives your life meaning.
Are you that guy at the end of the bar who when he runs into an old classmate that he hasn't seen in years and the first thing you ask him is, "do you remember that game against..."?

I really liked the movie, and this is an excellent quote.
From another movie about Texas football, here's a quote that captures the opposite point of view:

The only thing I dont like about baseball is that it quickly became a non-contact sport since Ray Fosse and Pete Rose introduced themselves at home plate.
Another great movie, regardless of how inaccurate the end was, but that's just the wrong mindset. If you tell kids their life will never be any better than when they were in HS you're selling them short.
I have nothing from High School... I don't need "Glory Days!" I don't go to bars... Never see past classmates... Never go to class reunions... I always go forward... But I have had numerous players come to me and say that what I stated about life was the truth... But you were a bench warmer so Im sure you don't have any glory days to remember aside from handing bottles of water to the real players... I was a O/D lineman... Ya know, where you can be violent every play, but since you sat the bench and never entered hitting drills you wouldn't know about that either... Or did you even play football or sports?

"Always go forward"..."don't need glory days". Then proceeds to talk about how great it was to be a violent lineman at a school that no longer offers 11 man football.
Let me guess, you're the coach who still tries to get in with the players and do the drills.
You want background on me, ok. Played freshman and sophomore year at Morris and saw decent time, didn't play varsity because I knew I wouldn't play. Knew Dan Darlington personally and he shot me straight and told me so. Stuck to baseball all 4 years. When I was playing foootball I was the weird small kid who when I got hit and people were scared I was hurt I would pop up laughing. Starter tackle football at age 6. I have a number of core memories from my HS "glory days" with my friends, but have had too many more amazing experiences since then to call that time the best of my life.
The thing about your Lombardi quote is that he says "worked his heart out in a good cause", he doesn't mention HS or football at all.
getting back on topic, I applaud this young man for making the tough decision and focusing on his future regardless of what others may think.

I am not saying anyone here is correct, or anybody is wrong.
BUT, it's sounds to me like he hit your nail right on the head, as he guessed your football experience.
I'm just saying..... Now back to your argument.

*extremely impressive kid - very well spoken
*Didn't say anything about injuries (prior or risk) being a factor
*Told UNC coaches he wants to come in and make an immediate impact as a freshman and the coach said you’re going to have to make some sacrifices and giving up football was one of those.
- going through UNC’s roster…(3) of their top (5) infielders played football in HS.
*Going to play for the his summer team in the fall but it will look much different with numerous teammates not doing fall ball (playing football I assume). Going to do a ton of traveling to play in various showcases to improve his draft stock.
*undecided if he will play baseball at Byron this year as well - hasn't given it much thought.
*Dad coached at Freeport Aquin and would have went there if it didn't close.

Without a doubt - that's where we're all in agreement here.
I'm concerned about kids getting advice from people who are motivated to make money off them and not letting kids be kids for as long as they can. Not saying that's the case here but it makes you wonder when people are telling him not to play football this year and he has an agency that's representing him. Just hate seeing kids not play their senior year of football for the reasons given.
Someone stated Byron could still go 9-0 without him. Maybe he could just play in the playoffs.
With the offense Byron runs why would you switch QBs for the playoffs if you just went 9-0?
Maybe just some plays to be part of the team. I am sure he can play a few positions. Could also be backup QB.
In the playoffs you need to add a few wrinkles. formations or plays nobody has seen on tape. As a great athlete he would be great to have on those plays.
