Not sure how a post about England-Norway degenerated into yet another debate about Messi. But nobody wanted him (which is what you originally said) and nobody wanted to match Miami’s offer are two different things. MLS has always overspent for players who are a bit past their prime but still damn good players. As often , the truth is somewhere in the middle. Is he still damn good (at times elite) player, obviously yes. Can he hold up over a 50+ game season at his age, no.

Messi is still an elite player at age 39. Most players are long retired by the time they are 39. Messi might win the Golden Boot in the World Cup. Is he still the best player in the world? No. Is he still an elite player that would walk into the starting lineup of almost every team in Europe? Yes.
So you're conceding the central point: European clubs were interested in signing him. Whether every club was willing to meet his contractual demands is a separate issue. Your original claim wasn't that negotiations broke down—it was that no European club wanted him. Those are fundamentally different arguments.
Even after shifting the goalposts, your revised argument still doesn't hold. The evidence shows there was genuine interest from multiple European clubs. The reason he didn't remain in Europe wasn't a lack of demand; it was that Barcelona was his only preferred European destination, and that move ultimately wasn't feasible.

Hahahhaa....you must avoid any soccer posts on social media right now. EVERY post would end up with a bitchfest about messi. Now that we are down to 4 teams, im OK with it. Im not sure what he did to garner this heat. There have been others in the past that I can think of that never got this sort of "attention"

But could he stay there for the season? The answer to that is no. His record in MLS proves that. That's why he isn't in Europe.

If you want to believe a 39 year old who plays in MLS could still be playing the top level in Europe then by all means do so. He knows he can’t, that’s why he is here.
