Surprising Norway has had the better scoring chances. This England team has done really good players. But they’ve also got a few starting that I’m think how the heck is this guy playing for freaking England?

Also it’s barely been talked about (at least that I’ve noticed) that Bellingham and Haaland we’re teammates at Dortmund

Bellingham is good. Top five now? Definitely. That was a really good game. Now time it’s for the Messi worship service.

Yes, last time. He is the GOAT, yes and that isn’t debatable. Is he the best now? No. Mbappe is going to break all of his records at the World Cup, and maybe beyond.

You seem to think that was funny. Obviously you have no understanding of irony.
You’ve gone from saying he’s washed up and over the hill to now saying he’s not the best player in the world now. Well no schitt. Nobody thinks he’s the best player in the world at this point in time. But he’s still an elite player at age 39. You’ve been on a high horse about how he can’t play in Europe anymore and he’s washed up. He’s made you look stupid this World Cup, which has been enjoyable to see.

If he could turn in a real season in Europe he would still be on the books of a club there. Instead he is playing in MLS. That says it all, it really does. Your ignorance is showing.

The guy clearly flopped. The yellow had to be taken off the Argentine player. If it is the rule in that situation that the yellow has to be put on the simulating player, then the refs made the correct call.

It’s his own fault that he’s on a yellow from the first half and chose to flop like a flounder.

Between his base salary + his other contractual compensation + other deals, he makes $70MM-$80MM. THAT says it all.
Yet he is playing in MLS. I wonder what Peyton Manning makes these days? Or David Beckham? MLS is a lucrative retirement gig for guys like Messi and Beckham. It will pay them the kind of money nobody in a top league will pay old guys like them. It's like you and me being a Walmart greeter, except it's marketing for MLS.

When Messi's two-year deal at PSG ended, he turned down the option for a third year.

Several elite European teams offered him contracts, but he was set on a Barcelona comeback. Although Barca wanted him back as well, their financial complications ultimately blocked the deal from happening.

Moving to MLS wasn’t a backup plan due to a lack of interest; he actively chose it over staying in Europe.

Everyone knows and understands this except L4. He understands soccer on a higher plane than the rest of us, including all the professionals who cover and play the sport. All you American fans who just discovered the sport and think Messi is so good are wrong! He’s old and washed up. Anybody can score a goal in 8 straight World Cup matches and lead the Golden Boot race up to the semifinals. It’s easy.

You really seem to like this term, but don’t seem to understand it.
Let me translate: “That says it all” = “I am an attention ***** and will go to great lengths to garner such attention. In this case (and many others), I’ve gone so far that I make myself look like a babbling idiot. But under no circumstance would I ever admit that”.

It’s no longer about making sense. It’s only about absolutely never admitting he’s wrong about anything.

Imagine how insufferable he’d be if Messi was actually having a pedestrian WC rather than a great one.
Honestly, I don't have any particular attachment to Messi one way or the other.

I'm simply correcting the claim that he came to MLS because no one in Europe wanted him. That's objectively false.

You'd think someone who watches as much soccer as he does would already know that.***

He could have. You're not making any sense, or not reading.
Nobody comes to MLS if they can still play at the top in Europe. You aren't using any logic, nor have you paid any attention to what I have actually been saying. You are arguing with a position I have never taken.

Messi did, and the evidence shows that.

What exactly is your argument? Initially, you claimed that no European club wanted Messi, which is factually incorrect.

Now, you seem to be shifting toward the argument that he was no longer capable of competing at the highest level. That conclusion is also not supported by the evidence.

Regardless of which position you're taking, both arguments rely on a single fact: that Messi plays in MLS. From that alone, you're asking people to infer either that he was no longer capable of performing at the highest level in Europe or that no European club wanted him. Both conclusions are contradicted by the available evidence.

No European club wanted him on his terms because he is not capable of producing a full season at the highest level. He knows that as well. That’s why he is in MLS. That’s what I’ve been saying,, the same thing all along. What evidence are you talking about? The World Cup is not the highest level the sport. We have no evidence to go by.
